Dolla's New Workspace

This is my newly designed workspace.  The room was previously a mess.  Too cramped with too many pieces of furniture.  Several pieces of furniture were removed and other items purchased to facilitate more storage and a better workspace.  It is much more comfortable and pleasant.

The purpose of this page is to show how a room can be madeover with very little money.  The price list of some items purchased is at the end of the page.

Two opposite walls were sponge painted blue and purple over the existing eggshell color.  I purchased 2 quarts of each color.  The same latex paint was used on the desk with plenty left over for other projects.

My new worktable is a MDF board I had cut to 4x6.  It was placed on the existing desk.  I also purchased 2-shelf bookcases and stacked them to go behind the desk and also 4 placed at various points under the desk. I painted the desk to match the newly painted walls.  You can't see the stamp and stenciled  Love, Peace and Joy on each triangle. Next will be to cover those ugly striped chest-o-drawers.  I'll use fabric or textured wall paper.

This is the fabric area which is behind my desk on the stacked bookcases.  The corner bakers rack is pretty and adds a special touch with all of the other industrial type items.  It was inexpensive and very sturdy.

The worktable.  This side is the painting, cutting stations. Cabinet jewelry boxes make great storage for paint brushes and other small items.

Before

The sewing and computer stations.  Spice racks are great for scissors, rulers and cutters and it rotates for easy access.  I purchased acrylic sheets to keep from scaring the desk.

Before

The closet.  The closet is really wide.  It extends almost the width of the room.  Shoe storage bags are used for small easy access items.  Kitchen carts on wheels hold spools of ribbon.  They can be wheeled out to gain access to the other area of the closet.  I also use small cosmetic luggage cases for beads and patterns. They are stored in front of the carts.

This unit has been cleared.  It will be used for Harley's studio apartment, office and other rooms.  This is industrial size and has tall shelf areas for plenty of ceiling space.

Finally I can display my OOAK creations.  :)  The unit on the left has mostly my creations and redresses.  The unit on the right are swap gifts.  Plenty of storage underneath for computer supplies and vcr tapes.   The chest-o-drawers holds more supplies (postage supplies, loose ribbon and trims, paints, glue and tools.

Judge Mathis on tv (my favorite show).
