S'valen grinned done at Hethar, sleeping ever so sweetly beside him, and he wondered if this could perhaps be it.  The long awaited love to end all loves, and perhaps begin a brand new part of his life...as a commited individual.  Sure Hethar didn't have a dragon, but arrangements could be made.  Hethar was everything S'valen had ever hoped for....she was beyond perfect.
She murmured in her sleep, and S'valen smiled.  He stroked his finger across her face, and then petted her black hair.  It was incredibly soft, and kept long..not like greenrider females who kept their hair short.
"S'val?"  Hethar whispered, and opened up her green eyes, and looked right at her lover.  S'valen was pleased she knew his name upon waking.....before him she'd had a reputation for quite a weyr-hopper, but lately she'd been content to just stay with him.  It boded well for the pair, because he had been the same way.

It won't work. Rekjavith, S'valen blue, announced sullenly.  He was always awake early in the morning, and kept a keen eye on S'valen's activities.  He didn't like all the "womanizing" S'valen did, although for a blue, that was rather odd.

And why not Reka? S'valen asked his blue mentally, before kissing Hethar's lips.
"Morning beautiful."   He said, and she giggled, and ducked her head playfully under the sheets.  S'valen heard Reka's equivalent of a mental sigh, and was prepared to completely ignored whatever the blue would have to say next.  What would a dragon know about finding true love?  They were fickle creatures, emotions didn't last with them.
And not with you either.  This Hethar's not for you S'valen, she can't stay with you anymore than you can with her!  She's not like that.  You need someone better.
"Better than Hethar?"  S'valen said outloud, and grinned wickedly.  "No such thing."  Hethar peered at him curiously for a moment, but she had been raised in the Weyr, and knew he was talking to his blue.  Odd creatures, dragons, always cutting into their riders personal lives.  Hethar didn't see why the riders allowed such nonsense.
"Your beast doesn't think I'm good enough for you?"  Hethar snuggled closer to S'valen.  "Well, he'll get over it.  It's not like this is a permenant thing anyway..."
S'valen, who had grimaced at Hethar called Reka his "beast" jumped when she said their relationship wasn't permenant.  Here he was, ready to propose.....
Hethar immediately realized it was the wrong thing to say.  She smiled weakly.
"Not that we won't be together for a very long time S'valen, but I was needing to talk to you about our restrictions."
"Restrictions?"  S'valen asked meakly, and Hethar sighed, and the rest of what she said, about how she needed more than what S'valen had to offer, and how she just wasn't ready to settle down yet, especially with a dragonrider, didn't really sink in until after she'd left.  S'valen knew she wasn't coming back, not after how poorly he'd taken it.  But how could he not?  Hethar was everything...

I am everything. Reka said jealoulsy, and sent soothing thoughts to his rider.  I could have told you she would do that.  She's not kind, not like what you need.  She'd need a bronzerider to keep her happy.....and she could never Impress anyway, so I don't know why you were interested.
"Because...."  S'valen said, trying to find some reason in his decision.  "Because she was..."
Perfect?  Reka snorted and moved so he could peer into S'valen's room.  No one's perfect, especially not someone like her.  She couldn't even Impress a fire lizard if she tried, and those things will go to anybody.
"Well what would you know?"  S'valen spat angrily, and his blue sighed again.
I know plenty, but I didn't dare go to her....not with you the way you are.  I couldn't do that to her rider.  I couldn't do that to her.
   "Who's
her?"  The bluerider was getting angry with his dragon now...upset that Reka seemed to have somehow fallen in love and not mentioned it at all.
Repanseth.  Reka said.  She's very lovely...a white....I like her a lot.
S'valen couldn't place the dragon's name.  "Who's her rider then?  Not a male is it?"

No.  Her rider's name is Vernia.  I don't think you've ever met her.  Perhaps in one of your excursions you may have bumped into her....but Repanseth says Vernia is very pretty too.
"I don't really want to hear about this."  S'valen told his blue.  "Hethar just left...."

And for the best I assure you! Reka spat, and then thumped his tail playfully.  But you'll forget that female faster if you put your mind on another one.  And maybe put that female's mind before your own!  Repanseth says Vernia is understanding...
"What does Vernia have to do with anything?!  Why does she need to understand me at all?  It's not like you're chasing this Repanseth, Reka.  For Faranth's sakes, I wish you'd drop it."

No. Reka said firmly, and surprised S'valen.  Reka, like most dragons, would do as their riders wished.  This blue was new to S'valen.  I think I will chase Repanseth.  I like her, and would love to mate with her.  And if you can't bring yourself to be interested in Vernia, than I guess you'll have to make other arrangements.  But I'm getting tired of all the females you choose to be with you S'valen.  Especially all the non-rider ones. Reka's voice was tired and pleading, and made S'valen heartsore.  How can I choose a mate if you keep doing this?  I won't ruin my love's rider's like that, and I think there's plenty of other, rider females, that you could choose.  Please choose one of them S'valen, it will work better if you do.
S'valen, at a loss for words and only wanting to reassure his dragon, agreed to meet this Vernia, and let his blue chase her Repanseth.

A while later at Falas.....
Rekajavith was sunning himself when he saw Repanseth with another blue.  He tried to sooth away the jealousy and anger that overcame him.  He wouldn't tear apart this other dragon, this Quoth,....who was making Repanseth  laugh!  No, he'd prove himself in the air....no need to show off like this male was doing now.  'don't want to show off' his rear end!  What else could this male be doing with his nonchalant attitude with the beautiful white?  Rekajavith, at least, complied with whatever Repanseth asked of him.  Although lately he'd been staying protectively close, despite her warnings not to.  Her present condition made it understandable...and the desire to produce offspring with one as beautiful and intelligant as Repanseth was to appealing to Rekajavith to ignore it for compliance sake.
S'valen had seemed to like Vernia too.  He hadn't told her about all the previous females....and in fact had put on the appearence of being a one-woman man all his life.  Reka let him, if he caught Repanseth, than Vernia would be more understanding to S'valen, and S'valen would be enough in love with Vernia to do anything to make it up to her.  Females liked that...making up.  They liked giving out their forgiveness.
Reka's head snapped up a little and he stretched his wings and swooped easily off his ledge, ignoring Repanseth's and Qouth's eyes watching him.  Both obviously thought he was after Repanseth's attention, but when he glided out of sight he kenw Repanseth was a little intrigued.  He knew that would work!
But as he stopped himself out by the weyrlake, and watched the parade of bronzes and browns that went by, he thought he recognized a familiar form.  A gentle mindtouch revealed one of the browns to be Olith!  Without meaning to Rekajavith snarled at his brother and friend since hatching.  What was Olith doing here?  Competeing for Repanseth no doubt.  Well, just let that brown see if Repanseth could be caught by such a clumsy creature!
Reka calmed himself, and warbled a greeting to Olith, and began to plan more ways to get into Repanseth's favor, and get S'valen into Vernia's.
