Raeniel laid back on the cot, her legs and arms sore from sacking firestone.  She wasnt even a rider and they had her doing chores!  But for the first time, it didnt feel like cheating to be lying down during the daylight hours.  For the first time, it felt kind of nice to be tired like everybody else.
Something was subtly changing inside Raeniel, and most assigned this change to the gentle harshness of the Weyr.  It challenged the girl in ways shed yet to experience.
Raeniel thought this was rubbish.  The Weyr was just another place to her, another bed, another meal, the only difference was instead of work in return, they expected her to stand on the sand when the eggs were hatching, and present herself to a newborn gold dragonet.
But as shed thought being in the Weyr meant only this, theyd slowly introduced real work to her.  Real work that wore her strong muscles, and forced her to use her mind.  Raeniel like this, although she wouldnt admit it to anyone, not even herself.  The Weyr challenged her, and if one didnt know better, one would think it was the first challenge Raeniel had ever encountered.  Life was so full of challenges; surely this restless girl had had her share of them?
Apparently not, for each day that passed and presented itself new to the redheaded girl was exciting to her for just that reason.  Always before the days had melted together, making one, extended period of time.  In this place it seemed that every day was strictly itself.  Life changed so much from day to day that everyone had to run to keep up.  Raeniel enjoyed the running, and yearned for it.

You belong here. Nikaths now usually absent voice told her, and Raeniel smiled up at the ceiling, her fingers dancing above her in the air.  Maybe she did belong here, but then again, maybe she didnt.  It would depend on how this hatching turned out.  Raeniel didnt honestly believe shed Impress, it wasnt an option to her, it was the catch that allowed her to stay in this place freely.  She would leave again after the hatching.
              Maybe.
