| Moree watched anxiously from her place among the girls as the first egg cracked, revealing a lovely little brown. It was beautiful, Moree thought, watching the lad Impress. It was like a reunion, rider and dragon, coming home to each other at last. Moree felt a tear sting her eye, and quickly brushed is away. Ever since the dragons began humming, Moree had walked about in kind of a half daze. She didn't stop to think about what was going on, and then suddenly she was here, on the sands at last, waiting for her life to change. Or to stay the same. Moree looked quickly over the other girls standing nearby, watching them with their eyes on the queen egg. Moree thought they were arrogant for it, but she couldn't keep her eyes off the golden orb either. But one girl didn't seem to look at any of the eggs with wanting, like everyone else did. Naysi. Moree told herself, looking at the tiny girl who looked like she was much too young to be out here. Her name is Naysi. Moree felt a twang of sympathy for the girl, Kayrasa had said something about the child living in the stables for her entire life, and how she had trouble expressing emotion. Moree shook her head, the eggs were hatching, she didn't have time to think about such nonsense. A blue hatched, then a green (Moree held her breath as the green passed, watching as the little female almost chose Naysi-or so Moree thought), and after her a brown came to the boys. Moree gasped with the crowd as a small, purple, dragonet hatched, and chose the girl Mirrial. It was an amazing sight, Moree thought, watching such a once in a lifetime occurance happening right before her own eyes. She couldn't help but think of her father then, and Hanoriel, and her "loving" siblings. It was almost too much for Moree to think of all that's happened in her life, and still stay here to on such a gamble. No time for nonsense. Moree told herself firmly, and concentrated as a little bronze chose from among the boys. Two more greens after him, and Moree stared jealously after them. Would no dragon want her? None had even so much as looked her way. It was then that Moree saw the queen egg, held protectively between it's dam's arms, began to rock, and then split open to reveal it's occupant. The magnificent little gold announced her birth so loudly, so royaly, that some of the girls covered their ears. Moree smiled at them, wondering which one the queen would choose for herself. But apperantly the little queen had another idea. She strutted in front of the girls, waving her damp neck and tail to show herself off. She snarled at the first girl to open her arms, and Moree saw the girl back away fearfully. Moree tensed, the little queen was near, and she let out a light bugle to announce herself again, and searched earnestly for one worthy or her. Moree could feel the haughtiness in the queen, and wondered what that meant...... To late, Moree nearly reeled backwards as she met the little gold's eyes. She felt the sudden impact of another mind, meeting hers, and hardly had a moment to think before a loving voice filled her head. You want someone to love you like you never were, I will be that someone, I am Alsyth and I chose you, Moree felt tears burning their way through her head. Alsyth loved her! Alsyth would always be there for her, always her champion, always her supporter. Until time stopped, and still Alsyth would be there! Moree fell to hug her dragonet, squeezing the beast so tightly some of the audience feared she would hurt the creature. Alsyth didn't mind, she seemed to understand. She nuzzled Moree gently, and crooned. Don't worry Moree...Alsyth said firmly, and grunted, causing Moree to smile. But....Alsyth paused, and then shook her head regally. I am so hungry Moree, so very hungry. Moree laughed, and realized how much the burning sand was stinging her feet, and winced in pain. She stood up, and led Alsyth away. "This way Alsyth." Moree said, rolling the gold's name on her tongue, enjoying the sound. Alsyth crooned approvingly, and then repeated that she was hungry. |
