| OUR VISION A society where the poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged families and communities are empowered for an improved quality of life. OUR MISSION To provide social protection and promote the rights and welfare of the poor, vulnerable and the disadvantaged individual, family and community to contribute to poverty alleviation and empowerment through social welfare and development policies, programs, projects and services implemented with or through Local Government Units, Non-Government Organizations, Peoples Organizations, other Government Offices and Other members of the civil society. OUR MANDATE To provide assistance to Local Government Units, Non-Government Organizations, Other National Government Agencies, Peoples Organizations and other members of civil society in effectively implementing programs, projects and services that will alleviate poverty and empower disadvantaged individuals, families and communities for an improved quality of life as well as implement statutory and specialized programs which are directly lodged with the Department and not yet devolved to the Local Government Units. OUR GOALS -Formulation and advocacy of a juts and responsive social welfare and development legislative agenda, policies and plans, as well as ensuring their effective implementation; -Identification, development and marketing of technologies for building up social capital; -Setting up and enforcement of social welfare and development standards to protect the rights of the poor and the disadvantaged to quality services; -Provision of technical assistance and resource augmentation to intermediaries in the implementation of the social welfare and development programs and services; and, -Provision of preventive, protective, rehabilitative and developmental programs and services. |

| 1st Bahay Bulilit outside Manila launched in Iloilo City ILOILO CITY-The 1st Bahay Bulilit outside Manila was officially opened here recently. No less than the newly-installed DSWD Secretary, Esperanza I. Cabral, graced the Blessing, Inauguration and Turn-over Ceremony of the Bahay Bulilit located at Brgy. Benedicto, Jaro, Iloilo City, Philippines. "We congratulate the Local Government of Iloilo City headed by Mayor Jerry Trenas for being speedy in finding the counterpart lot for this project. Without the support of the Local Government Unit, this project could not be completed," stressed Cabral. The Bahay Bulilit serves as a day care center that will benefit children six years old and below. Bahay Bulilit is a joint project of the Ronald Mc Donald's House of Charities (RMHC), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Local Government concerned. The RMHC provides P1 million fund, DSWD provides the psycho-social component and the LGU provides the lot needed. Bing Bachoco, Senior Vice President of RMHC, said that Mc Donalds aims to build 100 Bahay Bulilit units all over the Philippines as they have pledged to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. | Renewing Enthusiasm in the workplace ILOILO City-RECOGNIZING the importance of spiritual renewal of spiritual renewal in one's life amidst the pressures of work, the more than 200-strong workforce of KALAHI-CIDSS:KKB recently underwent a capacity-building training/workshop at St. Clement's Retreat House in La Paz district here. The activity, dubbed as Revitalizing Energy and Enthusiasm in the Workplace (RENEW), was graced by Sr. Eppie Brasil, OP. and Sr. Menchie Advincula, O.P., M.D. as resource persons. Assistant Regional Director Joel P. Galicia of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VI (DSWD6) said the activity conducted in three batches, primarily aimed to foster spiritual rejuvenation and strengthen camaraderie among the staff of KALAHI-CIDSS. "Considering their workload in the field being the frontliners of the prorject, we felt the need for our workers to be spiritually refreshed and renewed for them to better appreciate whatever they have and inspire them some more to be effective workers for development," said Galicia, also the Regional project Manager of KALAHI-CIDSS:KKB.
