| The El Mirador was built in the same year that Edmonton became a City... 1904 and is 100 years old this year. It was originally a farm where the hired hands lived in the building on the left and was attached to the owner's home with traditional Spanish style walkways. Construction carried on until approximately 1953 when the Patricia Annex was completed. The oldest part of the complex bares the address 10147. Residents of the courtyard dubbed it 10139 as visitors often got lost trying to enter at 10147... and the Patricia Annex bares 10133. Most residents are long-term and some have been living here for more than 10 years. Understandably there is an approximate waiting list of 2 years. However, the odd suite comes available but would be tenants have to keep a sharp eye out as the suites are gone as fast as they come available. Tenants often play "Musical Apartments" rather than move out, they simply move to another apartment more to their liking. I have what could be called "The Penthouse". Although it is not the only 2 bedroom apartment on the top floor, it is the largest apartment in the complex and is on the top floor... lol Silly idea anyway... As you can see in the photos at the bottom of this page, I am a collector of antiques and they fit the place perfectly, with the one exception that there is not enough room in this place for all of my furniture... What is not plainly visible is my video surveillance system and alarms... ;-) However, the tenants of this place keep a sharp eye out for would-be intruders. Everyone knows everyone and we make certain that no one unwelcome or uninvited enters onto the property. This microcosm of a community is very tight and the tenants can often be found in conversation on the patio deck or on one of the terraces... |
