On Chaos
What is Chaos:

Chaotic systems are systems without any precise or defined start or finish and the where little, if anything can be predicted. A dictionary defines Chaos as "A place or state of great confusion and disorder"

In Scientific terms chaos is defined as "The disordered state of unformed matter and infinite space supposed in some cosmogonic views to have existed before the ordered Universe."

In mathematical terms it's "the Dynamical system that has a sensitive dependence on initial conditions."

"chaos

A1. A property of some non-linear dynamic systems, which exhibit sensitive dependence on initial conditions. This means that there are initial states which evolve within some finite time to states whose separation in one or more dimensions of state space depends, in an average sense, exponentially on their initial separation. Such systems may still be completely deterministic in that any future state of the system depends only on the initial conditions and the equations describing the change of the system with time. It may, however, require arbitrarily high precision to actually calculate a future state to within some finite precision."

A2. The philosophy of Determinism suggests that ultimately a future event can be predicted by calculating the initial conditions. Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction novels, the "Foundation" series (recommended reading), is based on this premise. The story tells of a mathematical genius who live in the distant future, who built an algorithm that enabled him to predict the course of events for generations to come, with perfect precision. I stop short of suggesting the idea is impossible as I think anything is possible however, improbable. Still man tries to make order out of the very chaos he lives in... and he continues to define the world he lives in while in an advanced state of denial.

A3. Man knows that there can never be order or the slightest amount of predictability in anything and he blocks his open-mindedness with the very bit of order that he creates. Every time we think we have a new "law" in science, we cease to think about it or its possible flaws. As our knowledge grows so does our inability to think with an open mind. We attempt to pigeonhole the universe with our linear thinking and make everything predictable and with every new piece of knowledge, we move that much farther from the nature of the Universe.

A4. The study of Chaotic systems through non-linear matematics, fractal geometry and the like, is simply another attempt to give order to something which has no order. In more ways than one the Universe is infinite. If we look inward to particle physics we will forever, find smaller and smaller particles and if we look out to the expanse of the Universe we will always find more universe... More that is infinite. Even to define chaos is to limit it. The western mind finds it more and more inconceivable to think that there is no order.

A5. How many thoughts did you have today? What will you be thinking about at 3:47 PM tomorrow? What will you dream about tonight? Those are all chaotic systems and/or fragments of chaotic systems. Your life is a chaotic system and everything around you is a chaotic system. A river is a good example of a chaotic system that has a small amount of predictability. You may be able to see its current course right now, but over time, it changes and the meanders move to new locations with each passing day. We know that it will eventually empty itself into a lake or the ocean but that's about it... Nothing inside the river, the sticks and mud, the current and eddies are possible to predict with any accuracy.

A6. So, why all of this chatter about Chaos? Because, I believe that man, at some point must return to the chaos from whence he came and make it his friend again. Once we learn to live in our understanding that everything is part of a chaotic system, we can then move to understand the futility in giving order to everything and thereby reclaim the lost vision of the purpose in our existence. To think that there is any order in the universe is backward. If the Universe is perfect in any way, it is in that it is perfect chaos. In order to have a free and open mind, we must have a non-linear mind and think in terms of a chaotic systems... Then and only then will we be in tune with our environment and the rest of the Universe. To seek to catalogue and pigeonhole the universe and everything in it takes us away from our open-mindedness and is purely illusion.

A7. Back in the '60s a student of Anthropology at the UCLA, Carlos Castaneda wrote a series of books, which I will list here:

          1)  The Teachings of Don Juan
          2)  A Separate Reality
          3)  Journey to Ixtland
          4)  Tales of Power
          5)  The Second Ring of Power

If you are at all interested in the Occult and/or Sorcery, you'll love these books, but that is not the reason I have made reference to them. In the teachings is named a place in the Universe called the Nagal. It is a place of utter "nothingness". to even think of the Nagal is to give it substance, which it has none of. Like Buddhist "enlightenment", Nagal can only be approached by not thinking about it. For those who have an interest in Buddhism, you will find many, many similarities in the philosophies of this Sorcery to those of Buddhism.

A8. Off the topic but, interesting, nonetheless, I was amazed that there were so many similarities between these two disciplines when, they originated on opposite places of the planet, and thousands of years ago. It suggests to me that the knowledge is transferred through a higher plane of consciousness. Like the Pyramids of Mexico and those of the Giza Plateau, in Egypt. Another book I recommend is "Fingerprints of the Gods" by Graham Hancock. There are a lot of unexplained phenomena that I have found very interesting. I am including a web site to Art Bell's site. He has a radio talk show after his name that deals with everything that is weird. Some is very contrived but one has to chew up the meat and spit out the bones. ...Back to the topic...

A9. If you look at what you can predict about your life's future, you will see that there is nothing that you can predict. The same can be said of your past. That leaves the "Now" of you life. Even the moments that are happening right now, can be split into billions of parts. Every moment contains an infinite number of pieces and possibilities. When we consider that time and events are totally unpredictable, we see that all Time exists right now, that there is no past, there is no future, there is only "Now". In this concept of Now we find that dinosaurs are alive and well in the present, but living in another plane or dimension of existence and cavemen live right next-door...

A10. Our human minds have become so narrow and limited that we can no longer see anything that does not fit into our concept of order. During WWII, the British were loosing many ships to German U-boats. An officer in the Navy came up with the idea of painting the ships with bizzare graphic designs. The ships became instantly invisible to the U-boats and reduced their losses by 70%. The point being, that simply because something does not fit our paradigm, does not mean that it doesn't exist. The U-boat Captains were looking for ships, they weren't looking for the graphics and the ships disappeared from their minds. How many children have had invisible friends?
