Storm-
Dallas
could not come out of a three-goal deficit in Saturdays game in Phoenix,
falling by a 3-2 score to the Coyotes. Dalas had power-play goals from
Pierre Turgeon and Brenden Morrow. Ladislav Nagy, Daymond Langkow and
Mike Comrie scored for Phoenix as the Stars fell six points back of San
Jose for first in the Pacific. Phoenix scored three times in its first
11 shots getting just enough of a lead to hold off the Dallas team that
was 6-0-2 in eight previous games. Brian Boucher had 32 saves a night
after giving up four goals in a 5-2 loss to the New York Islanders. Phoenix
Coyotes captain Shane Doan had two assists and won the first star of the
game for his work in the third period, which included forcing Stars goalie
Marty Turco into a roughing penalty after Doan intercepted two passes
while covering up Dallas in its own end. Doan missed an empty net with
40 seconds left to go in regulation. Turco, who leads the NHL in wins
with 26, had 18 saves. Morrow tightened the game up with the only goal
of the third period with a wrist shot over Boucher at the 4:05 mark. Jan
Hrdina kicked the puck to Nagy, whose crossing pass went in off Langkow's
skate in the 3:47. Comrie, who was acquired Monday from the Philadelphia
for goaltender Sean Burke, made it 2-0 with 40.1 seconds left in the first
period. Savage pulled above the circle and sent a rocket shot off Stars
goaltender Marty Turco's pads. Then Comrie moved in from the right and
tipped in a rebound over Turco.
The Yotes put in another one when Doan passed one across to Nagy, whose
slap shot from the point went in through some traffic 7:33 into the period
and 56 seconds into Ott's penalty. Dallas capitalized when Turgeon cut
it to 3-1 Coyote lead at the 9:19 mark, shoveling the puck over Boucher,
but the goalie made nine more saves before the period ended and 13 more
in the third. Also Stars goaltender Marty Turco played with one of his
two new masks for the first time this season. This defeat ended the Stars'
season-long eight game unbeaten streak 6-0-2. The Stars now head over
to Anaheim to face the Ducks. The Mighty Ducks recently won their previous
game which was against the Vancouver Canucks by a 2-1 score. Fedorov reached
the milestone with a second-period assist, then set up the game-winner
with 7:10 left in the third in the Anaheim Mighty Ducks 2-1 win over Vancouver
on Saturday night. Ducks goaltender J-S Gigeure turned away 35 shots from
the Canucks and Vancouver's goalie Hedberg blockd 33 shots from Anaheim.
