NHL Rivalry-
By Jason-
The Coyotes Den-
Last Updated February 14,2004
The Phoenix Coyotes acquired center Mike Comrie in exchange for Sean Burke, right winger Branko Radivojevic, and the rights to unsigned draft pick Ben Eager. The 23-year-old Comrie has played in 21 games with the Philadelphia Flyers this season, getting 4 goals, 5 assists, for 9 points and 12 penalty minutes (PIM). In his four NHL seasons, Comrie has collected 65 goals, 77 assists, for 142 points and 161 PIM in 213 career games split between Edmonton and Philadelphia. Comrie spent the previous three seasons with Edmonton before being traded to Philadelphia earlier this season in exchange for Jeff Woywitka, a first round pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and a third round pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft on Dec. 16, 2003. “The addition of Mike Comrie to our roster gives us another proven scorer and a player who brings passion to his profession,” said Michael Barnett, the Flyers GM. “He has enjoyed success at a very young age in the NHL and we look forward to watching how far his skills will take him and the Coyotes in the years to come.” Comrie’s best season came in 2001-02 when he set career highs in goals, points and games played, finishing the campaign with 33 goals, 27 assists and 60 points in 82 games with Edmonton. That year, he led the Oilers in goals and finished tied for the team lead in points. He also ranked fourth on the team in assists and second in power play goals (8), power play assists (14) and power play points (22). Comrie’s 33 goals ranked 17th in the NHL and his shooting percentage (19.4%) finished 6th in the NHL in ’01-02. He also played in the 2002 NHL YoungStars Game as part of NHL All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Anders Erickson has become quite the scoring threat lately. Two days after his second goal of the season won a game against Minnesota, Eriksson had two against Phoenix, and the Columbus Blue Jackets earned a 3-3 tie Monday night. "You go in spurts when you're hot, I guess,'' said Eriksson, who played for Chicago, Florida and Toronto before signing with the Blue Jackets on Oct. 10. "I never really knew what that felt like.'' David Vyborny tied the game at two on a penalty shot and assisted on Eriksson's goal that tied it again and helped Columbus earn a rare point in Phoenix. "You take the goals from anywhere, anybody you can when you've got a player like Rick Nash out,'' assistant coach Gord Murphy said. "It's got to be goals by committee. It was big. That's a real step in the right direction for our hockey club.'' Brian Boucher stopped 25 shots for the Coyotes. Ladislav Nagy and Jan Hrdina had a goal and an assist each, and Mike Sillinger scored a go-ahead goal in the third period. Anders Eriksson scored both goals with 6:11 left in the first and third periods.

The Coyotes played Dallas last night, losing in regulation to Dallas 5-4. The Star's Brenden Morrow scored his first career hat trick as David Oliver added the game-winning goal. Bill Guerin also scored, and Steve Ott added 2 assists. Ladislav Nagy, Shane Doan, Chris Gratton, and Mike Sillinger scored for the Coyotes, who have advanced their losing streak to 3 games, and are 2-6-1-1 since moving to the Glendale Arena December 27th. Phoenix had 7 straigh power play oppertunities in the first and second periods, scoring once. They spent 12:12 of the second period on the power play. "We hung in there and they had a few shots miss the net,'' Dallas coach Dave Tippett said. "Our penalty kill hung in there, especially when they were pushed to excess.'' Nagy tied it at two with a power-play goal 35 seconds into the second period, beating goalie Marty Turco to his stick side from the right side of the net for his team-high 22nd goal. Morrow answered 33 seconds later, chipping a loose puck in the left side of the crease just past goalie Sean Burke's outstretched right skate for a 3-2 Dallas lead. Doan pulled Phoenix to 4-3 at 10:43 when he took the puck behind the net, skated out to Turco's right and stuffed the puck in the short side for his 20th. Guerin made it 5-3 with an unassisted goal at 4:07 of the third, his 22nd goal. Gratton cut the lead to 5-4 on his seventh goal at 6:18 of the period.
