Ron Tugnutt's days in Dallas seem to be over. The veteran goaltender says he's been placed on waivers and will most likely be demoted to Utah of the AHL if no one else claims him. While he calls the move "unfair", Tugnutt says he will accept the demotion. "It's probably along the lines of unfair, but it's the way it is," Tugnutt tells the Star-Telegram. "It's just the nature of the beast." Joining the Stars in the summer of 2002, Tugnutt has been struggling. Last season he was 15-10-5 with four shutouts but fell during a late season stretch when starter Marty Turco missed one whole month with an ankle injury. This year, he is 1-3-0 with a 2.57 goals against average. He last played January 2 when he was pulled after allowing two goals on seven shots. Stars next Opponent is the Atlanta Thrashers. Previously in the Migty Ducks game the Stars held a 2-1 lead for most of the game but the Ducks tied it up, and that was the second time for Dallas to have a lead and some time in the third the Opponent tied things up, hopefully Dallas can hold the lead and defeat Atlanta-NHL NEWS- Mario Lemieux season has come to an end, as he undergoes surgery to repair chronic tendonitis on his left hip flexor . If there was any doubt about the Red Wings'
ability to hold another 3-0 lead in the third period against
the Nashville Predators Monday night they were quickly squashed.
Defenseman Jason Woolley had two goals and an assist, Kris Draper
had two goals, and goaltender Curtis Joseph stopped all 26 shots
he faced as Detroit
routed the Predators 6-0.
It was the Red Wings' first victory against the Predators this
season. Detroit had lost the previous three games by 5-3, 4-3
and 1-0 scores. »»

The Red Wings completed a New Year’s week where they scored
13 goals and earned three wins, while along the way, they skated
into the second half of the season. And at their halfway point
(the rest of the teams in the NHL will catch up at some point
in mid-spring), the Red Wings not only lead the Central Division
and the Western Conference, they are also the team with the
most wins and the most points in the NHL, befitting a team that
leads the league in goal scoring, too. »»
McCarty
to take first skate (12/29)
Forward Darren McCarty, who has been out since early November
with two bulging disks in his back, will take the ice by himself
Tuesday morning for the first time since suffering the injury.
McCarty said that he hopes to return by the middle of next month.
Bootland
returned to Grand Rapids (12/28)
With winger Tomas Holmstrom returning to the lineup against
the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday, forward Darryl Bootland was
returned to the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL) Saturday night.
Bootland appeared in 22 games and recorded a goal and an assist
along with a team-leading 74 PIMs.
Hatcher
returns to the ice (12/27)
Defenseman Derian Hatcher took to the ice for the first time
since suffering a torn ACL in the third game of the season.
The Red Wings' biggest off-season acquisition, Hatcher skated
for about 20 minutes.
"I guess it's the first step to actually feeling like you're
doing something," Hatcher told the Detroit Free Press.
"It tends to get a little old, every day doing the same
stuff, and this is something new. I am excited.
"Everything's right where it's supposed to be. Four months
would be March 6. That would be best-case scenario, and that's
what we're looking to."
