| The
Dallas Stars have decided not to tender qualifying offers
to restricted free agents Valeri Bure and Aaron Downey, meaning
that the two forwards will become unrestricted free agents
on Thursday.
The Stars would have tp qualifiy Bure at $3.1 million and
Dowey at $550,000. Bure was the big issue for the Stars,
whose payroll is already over $55 million for next season
and could be close to $57 million by the time they get all
their restricted free agents signed.
The Stars are not expected to be active in the free agent
market this summer, although GM Doug Armstrong has said
if the economics work they may bring in a player. There
is also the chance the Stars still could make trades to
shed some payroll.
The Stars did extend qualifying offers Wednesday to defensemen
John Erskine and Dan Jancevski and forwards Mike Siklenka,
Jaroslav Svoboda and Mathias Tjarnqvist.
Here's a look at the players the Stars have under contract
or have tendered qualifying offers to so far, along with
those who have not been tendered qualifying offers or have
not been signed.
The official list will be released some time Thursday.
