Quacked Out, 3-1
Sergei Fedorov and Petr Sykora scored 19 seconds apart very early in the second period and Jean-Sebastien Giguere turned away 36 shots to lead the Anaheim Mighty Ducks to a 3-1victory over the Dallas Stars on Monday night. Mike Leclerc registerd an empty-net goal 34 seconds left to play in regulation. This was his his first goal in four games since having and returning from offseason knee surgery. Bill Guerin popped one in for the Stars, who have dropped down two straight games for the first time since a five-game losing streak Nov. 30-Dec. 10. Guerin's 24th goal came on a breakaway with 13:55 remaining. Giguere stopped the shot with his pads but it scrambled across the goal line. Anaheim failed to get a shot on net for the first 12 minutes of the game and were outshot 13-2 in the first period. But the Ducks snapped right out of a scoreless period at the 3:18 mark of the second period and just eight seconds after Dallas Rob DiMaio was called for high-sticking. Sergei Fedorov registerd his 20th goal when he carried a lose puck through right of the boards and made a cross-ice pass to Sykora that bounced off defenseman Teppo Numminens skate and past goaltender Marty Turco. Just moments later, Leclerc went on a break-away rush with Peter Sykora and fed it over to Sykora and scored with another cross-ice pass for his 18th goal. Marty Turco, now making his 32nd appearence and 12th straight with a broken left foot, he made 22 saves. The injury happend on Jan. 19, when Turco was struck by a shot from teammate Philippe Boucher during a morning practice skate on Jan. 19 in Vancouver. Since this injury, he is 7-3-2 with two shutouts and has allowed 26 goals. Dallas have used Turco in all but only two games. Marty Turco can break Grant Fuhr's record of 79 games played if he appears in each of Dallas final 23 games, also could shatter the league mark of 4,511 minutes which Marc Denis set last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Dallas now heads over to Los Angeles. The Kings lost 2-1 to the Devils in Over time, but tied 1-1 with the New York Islanders on Monday the 16th. Arron Asham scored early in the third period and Rick DiPietro blocked 29 shots. Also the San Jose Sharks pick up two more points after defeating the Flyers 5-2. Sean Burke allowed five goals on 20 shots, losing for the first time in three starts since coming to the Flyers in a trade last week.
