The first place Colorado Avalanche look to complete
a season sweep of the Dallas Stars and avoid a third
straight loss in a matchup of Western Conference
powers. Colorado are tied with Detroit for the most
points in the Western Conference, but they took
two straight losses. Colorado lost 1-0 to Vancouver
at home Monday, and fell 5-1 to Edmonton on Wednesday
night, which was also a home game. The win for the
Canucks allowed second-place Vancouver to cut into
the Avalanche's Northwest Division lead. Avs backup
goalie Phil Sauve suffered his first loss in nine
games, stopping 15 of 18 shots before being replaced
by David Aebischer for the final 5:32 of the second
period. Sauve returned for the third. Colorado was
not much better even offensively, who just got 15
shots on goal. Brett Clark scored with 30 seconds
left to break up the shutout of Edmonton's Tommy
Salo. Also, star center Peter Forsberg was a late
bird for the Avs because of a strained hip.. Full
