I am an intermittent Consultant/Advisor for the United Nations Development  Programme (UNDP) and Government of Indonesia. My work deals with governance issues and was involved in developing the Programme of Support for Deepening Democracy in Indonesia (2006-2010), a joint collaboration between the Government of Indonesia and UNDP. The programme comprises civic engagement, electoral reform and parliamentary support (DPR, DPD and DPRD). I teach at the postgraduate level on "Democracy, Civil Society and Governance" in Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung, and "Foreign Policy" and "International Communication" in Universitas Pelita Harapan.

Originally from Indonesia, I was raised in Jakarta, Sydney and London. My childhood was spent transferring from one school to another. From then on, I spent a lot of time moving and roaming around, which later developed my perennial passion for traveling and learning about how other societies work.

I have a Ph.D. in Political Science and my teaching and research interests include: participation, collective action, comparative democracy, Muslim politics and regional studies on Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei) and Middle East (with focus on Iran). My book entitled
Why Muslims Participate in Jihad: An Empirical Survey on Islamic Religiosity in Indonesia and Iran will be published sometime this year by Mizan and the Australian Theological Forum Press (refer to the latest ATP catalogue at: http://www.internationalpubmarket.com) . Currently, I am working on another book  on Managing Indonesia's Democracy.
