--- Physical Description ---

The Blob...kind of... The KraKen seem to be an Ooze type of creature with the ability to harden certain parts of themselves at different times. KraKen can emulate the shapes of many forms but there appearance is always that of a KraKen. They are a slightly opaque ranging in colors yellow, blue, green, red, gray, brown, and very few black and white. Physically, they resemble giant prokaryotic life forms, with minimal development of internal organs, tissues, or systems. However, the unplaced, and highly developed, psionic sentience that they possess reveals a deeper intelligence. Their entire bodies are photoreceptive (i.e. one giant eye) and shockwave sensitive (i.e. one giant ear). They can mimic sounds by morphing part of their body to a form that can produce the sound/s, making them capable of speaking (or at least repeating) any language to which they are exposed. The KraKen are very versatile eaters, simply absorbing a piece of food or a stone like a huge amoeba and dissolving it at a molecular level into the base compounds they need to survive.

--- History ---

Ever since their discovery around a decade ago, the KraKen have been one of the oddest races ever to join the galactic community. The initial scouts who found them were not sure of what to make of the amorphous creatures, as were the KraKen unsure of what to make of the solid yet mobile forms that had come from the sky. The name KraKen was developed from the odd guttural clicking noise made by the KraKen during their first encounter with outsiders. The world on which they had evolved had no breathable atmosphere and was very volcanic with pools of warm and highly sulfurous waters. A deal was soon struck when information and technology was exchanged for exports of minerals from the rich deposits within the planets highly volatile crust.

The KraKen were eager learners and able to awkwardly operate alien technologies through psionic manipulation. The KraKen were quick to organize research centers where they could develop technologies with identical or similar function to the alien technologies, yet was easier for them to use, or more applicable to their unique physiology. Though they have expanded little to colonize, they had spend much of their time examining and developing.
