World League of American Football Icons (v2) by Daniel M. Smith (dsmith4@bayou.uh.edu)

Welcome to my icon set for the World League of American Football. All of
these icons were drawn by me and me alone, though I owe thanks to many people
who helped me compile the info (see below).

For those of you unfamiliar with the league, here is a little background:

The league began play in 1991 with 3 teams in Europe and 7 in the US.
Following the 1992 season, the league suspended play and began again in 1995
with all the US teams gone and 3 new European teams. The league continues
now as a proving ground for young NFL talent. If you want more info on the
WLAF, visit the league on the web at: http://worldleague.com
Or drop by the WLAF links page at: http://home.ml.org/wlaflink
Or check out the history of the league at: http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/1871

Here is a list of the files that you should now have, and a brief description
of each:

wlaf.txt - You're reading it
admirals.ico - Amsterdam Admirals. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure what
this is. I know it is a shield of some sort. I recommend you check
out the WLAF homepage to see it in detail. Used in 95-current.
birmfire.ico - Birmingham Fire. Flames flowing back from the front of the
	helmet. Used in 91-92.
clamores.ico - Scottish Claymores. A large doule-edged sword once used by
	Scottish Highlanders. Used in 95-current
dragons.ico - Barcelona Dragons. A dragon. An ugly dragon. Used in 91-92,
	95-current.
galaxy.ico - frankfurt Galaxy. A nicely done galaxy. Used in 91-92, 95-current.
glory.ico - Ohio Glory. The head of an eagle in a circle trailing red and
white ribbon from its mouth. Pretty cool. Used in 92.
knights.ico - New York/New Jersy Knights. A knight off of a chessboard. Used
	in 91-92.
machine.ico - Montreal Machine. An 'M' that looks like it was produced in a
steel factory. Interesting choice for a helmet logo. Used in 91-92.
monarchs.ico - London Monarchs. An M formed to make a crown. Clever. Used
	in 91-92, 95-current.
rhfire.ico - Rhine Fire. A styalized flame flowing from the front of the
helmet. Rhine in the team name refers to a region of Germany. Used
	in 95-current.
riders.ico - San Antonio Riders. A guy on a horse. Forget the fact that the
flag of Texas is backward. Used in 91-92.
skyhawks.ico - Raleigh/Durham Skyhawks. 3 planes with trailing streaks inside
a triangle. Comes from the fact that the Skyhawk is actually a type
	of plane. Used in 91.
surge.ico - Sacramento Surge. An 'S' over a triangle. Don't ask me where
they got the name or the logo. Used in 91-92.
thunder.ico - Orlando Thunder. A lightning bolt moving through clouds. Well
	designed. Used in 91-92.
wlaf.ico - The World League of American Football logo. A helmet flowing out
of a globe with the league name underneath.

And now a quick note on how these icons were created. They were drawn with
Windows Paintbrush and converted into icons using The Icon Librarian. Since
I wanted everyone to be able to use them, I only used 16 colors. This allows
everyone running early versions of Windows to put them on their desktop. This
is why orange helmets appear the way they do. I had to use a mix of red and
yellow. Not the greatest of results, but you get the idea. You are free to
use these icons on your computer, and to share them with friends, all I
ask is that you give me credit for having spent the many hours to create them.

If you are wondering about white facemasks and stripes, here is the deal. To
avoid having to come up with background colors for every icon, I've made all
white facemasks and white outer stripes light gray. This allows me to treat
them the same way I treat all other colors. I don't feel it takes too much
away from the helmets, but if you disagree, let me hear from you.

Along with the AFL, I also have icon sets available for the following leagues:

National Football League
United States Football League
Canadian Football League
World Football League
American Football League
Arena Football League
All-American Football Conference
Professional Spring Football League (conjectural helmets)
Professional Indoor Footbal League
College Divisions
Fantasy Leagues
Custom Helmets

Check out my web site at http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Bleachers/4595/
to see which of these are currently available.

Also, if you have any requests for helmets to be made into icons, just let me
know and I'll try to put it together for you.

I would like to say thanks to the following people for their help in putting
these icons together. I could never have done it without them!

John Fulgaro, publisher of the Sports Logo Guide. If you are interested in
logos at all, this is a must have resource.
Sorry if I have left anyone out!

Hope you enjoy my icons, and let me know what you think of them! I love to
get feedback on my work!
