United States Football League Icons (v3) by Daniel M. Smith (dsmith4@bayou.uh.edu)

Welcome to my icon set for the United States Football League. All of these
icons were drawn by me and me alone, though I owe thanks to many people who
helped me compile the info (see below).

For those of you unfamiliar with the league, here is a little background:

The league was founded by David Dixon and played 3 seasons from 1983-1985.
A lack of money led to the league folding following the 1985 championship
game. If you want more info on the USFL, visit the league on the web at:
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/5145/wfl.html (and tell Paul I said HI!)

Here is a list of the files that you should now have, and a brief description
of each:

usfl.txt - you are reading it.
bandits.ico - Tampa Bay Bandits. A guy on a horse. Name chosen because of
Burt Reynold's interest in the team. Used in 83-85.
blitz.ico - Chicago Blitz. Word 'blitz' with the z making a kind of lightning
	bolt. Used in 83.
blitz2.ico - Chicago Blitz. Same as about, but a different facemask and stripe
Used in 84. I might have the years on the two Blitz helmets backwards.
	Does anyone know for sure?
breakers.ico - Boston/New Orleans/Portland Breakers. Wavy lines (as in waves?).
Played 83 in Boston, 84 in New Orleans and 85 in Portland.
bulls.ico - Jacksonville Bulls. A streaking bull. Used in 84-85.
express.ico - Los Angeles Express. An 'LA' that is on the move. Used in 83-
	85.
federal1.ico - Washington Federals. A funny looking bird head. Used in 84.
federal2.ico - Washington Federals. A white version they used in 83.
gamblers.ico - Houston Gamblers. A 'G' with the state of Texas inside, with
a star at Houston. Clever. Used in 84-85.
generals.ico - New Jersey Generals. 5 stars in a circle. Used in 83-85
gold.ico - Denver Gold. A gold burst. Used in 84-85.
gold2.ico - Denver gold. Another gold burst. Used in 83.
gunsling.ico - San Antonio Gunslingers. A gunfighter ready to draw in a circle
with the team name. I know, I know, too small to see all that. Just
take my word for it. Used in 84-85.
invaders.ico - Oakland Invaders. A hand holding a lightning bolt. I know
it's simple, but I like this helmet. Invaders is a play used by the
	Oaklans Raiders. Used in 83-85.
maulers.ico - Pittsburgh Maulers. A guy with a hammer. Tough to see on the
icon, even tougher to see on the actual helmet. Used in 84.
outlaws.ico - Oklahoma/Arizona Outlaws. A little tiny outlaw head. Kinda
hard to see. Played 83-84 in Oklahoma, merged with the Arizona Wranglers
to become the Arizona Outlaws in 85.
panther2.ico - Michigan Panthers. A panther head, with a gray facemask. Used
	in 83.
panthers.ico - Michigan Panthers. A panther head. Pretty cool. Merged with
the Oakland Invaders. Used in 84.
renegade.ico - Orlando Renegades. Team name written along the handle of a
	tomahawk. Used in 85.
showboat.ico - Memphis Showboats. Half of a paddlewheel. Used in 84-85.
stallion.ico - Birmingham Stallions. A stallion. Used in 83-85.
stars.ico - Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars. Word 'STARS' written over a star.
Kinda hard to see. Played 83-84 in Philadelphia, 85 in Baltimore.
usfl.ico - The United States Football League logo.
wrangler.ico - Arizona Wranglers. A branding iron with a flaming 'W'. Used
	83-84.

And now a quick note on how these icons were created. They were drawn with
Windows Paintbrush and converted into icons using The Icon Librarian. Since
I wanted everyone to be able to use them, I only used 16 colors. This allows
everyone running early versions of Windows to put them on their desktop. This
is why orange helmets appear the way they do. I had to use a mix of red and
yellow. Not the greatest of results, but you get the idea. You are free to
use these icons on your computer, and to share them with friends, all I
ask is that you give me credit for having spent the many hours to create them.

If you are wondering about white facemasks and stripes, here is the deal. To
avoid having to come up with background colors for every icon, I've made all
white facemasks and white outer stripes light gray. This allows me to treat
them the same way I treat all other colors. I don't feel it takes too much
away from the helmets, but if you disagree, let me hear from you.

Along with the AFL, I also have icon sets available for the following leagues:

National Football League
American Football League
Canadian Football League
World Football League
World League of American Football
Arena Football League
All-American Football Conference
Professional Spring Football League (conjectural helmets)
Professional Indoor Footbal League
College Divisions
Fantasy Leagues
Custom Helmets

Check out my web site at http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Bleachers/4595/
to see which of these are currently available.

Also, if you have any requests for helmets to be made into icons, just let me
know and I'll try to put it together for you.

I would like to say thanks to the following people for their help in putting
these icons together. I could never have done it without them!

Paul Reeths who runs the excellent USFL homepage and supplied me with a ton of info.
John Meyer who has helped me not only with the USFL, but with all leagues. I
ask him question after question after question and he never tires of
it. I owe him more thanks than I will ever be able to express!
John Fulgaro, publisher of the Sports Logo Guide. If you are interested in
logos at all, this is a must have resource.
Ken Buck for his USFL helmet pic that helped me to get some colors straight.
Sorry if I have left anyone out!

Hope you enjoy my icons, and let me know what you think of them! I love to
get feedback on my work!
