RESEARCH INTERESTS (including, but not limited to the following subjects):

Turbulence / Vortex Dynamics: Turbulence is unavoidable in nature and in engineering. Systematic probing of the ‘simple’, isotropic and homogeneous turbulence is essential in furthering our understanding of the mysterious, “unsolvable” turbulence.

Fluid-Structure Interactions: When a structure reacts to its surrounding flow stream, the reaction may be sensed downstream as well as upstream. In the presence of a nearby structure, one reaction may tangle with the other, resulting in perplexing, coupled fluid-structure interactions which are of serious concern in many engineering applications, including those within many natural, biological systems.

Combustion: A better understanding of combustion-turbulence interactions and the underlying chemical kinetics are vital to the advancement of the next-generation combustors and/or combustion engines.

Energy & Thermal Systems: Energy utilization is demanding incrementally more significant sacrifices from our limited natural resources and deteriorating environment. Improving the existing thermal systems is a necessary step toward sustainable energy utilization.
