Green Eyes

by Donna and Abs

Amanda had sat with Ramirez at the King’s table, flirting with him almost shamelessly. She had a purpose for that. Amanda wanted him to let one of his students have the day off. She had plans for him, and they didn’t involve him getting all sweaty practicing his swordplay! She would much rather get him sweaty pursuing a whole different type of activity.

Of course she got her way, and the next morning, she showed up at Duncan’s doorstep, a picnic basket in hand.  The Highlander was delighted, of course, and after being assured that arrangements had been made for his animals to be taken care of that day, the two of them disappeared into the woods.

Little did they know what changes were in the wind.  Changes, at least, in the wonderful weather they were having.  The couple went off happily, to their picnic (and other things) without a care in the world, but after a well-deserved nap, they woke to find those weather changes taking place!

Duncan sat up and studied the sky. "I dinna like the looks of tha'," he said as he started to wrap his kilt around him again. It had served as their blanket for their nap. Amanda tore her eyes from admiring his firm physique and looked up.

"Me either!" she said grumpily. There went the rest of her day's plans! "Maybe we should go back now.” She stood up and slipped her gown over her head and put her feet into her shoes. Already the wind was starting to pick up.

Of course, Yvonne had gone with the others to answer the Old One's call.  Melissa had remained behind to watch over those in the castle; at this stage of her pregnancy they had decided she did not have to go out hunting wayward Humans.  Now, on the way back to Camelot, the Archer sensed one of her favorites out and about, when he should have been safe in the Scottish Village.  Unfortunately, she also sensed that he was not alone.

For a moment, she was tempted to leave them out in the storm, but she knew the Old One would not be pleased if she did. So, Yvonne changed her direction and headed towards them.

The wind was almost gale force now and it was becoming more and more difficult to walk. Duncan was leading Amanda through the woods by the hand, but when lightning hit a tree in front of them, he pushed her back into a more densely forested area. As the rain started to come down in sheets around them, the two of them huddled underneath a tree, with him holding the part of his great kilt that wrapped around his upper body and shoulder over their heads. Amanda, being how she was, took full advantage of the situation!

It was then that Yvonne saw them.  Angry, and terribly, terribly jealous, Yvonne drew her bow and arrow.  She aimed for Amanda, and was about to draw it back when someone put a hand on her shoulder.  Turning, she saw the Old One looking crossly at her.

"Vonnie . . ," he scolded, like you would a child.

Yvonne shrugged.  "She's Immortal.  Won't hurt her none."

"You're supposed to save BOTH of them," he reminded her.

Sighing, Yvonne moved her aim slightly, sending the arrow into the tree just above Amanda's head.

As Duncan whirled around, his sword in his hand, Amanda squealed and hid behind him. "Who is there?" he called out in the pouring rain. When Yvonne appeared a few feet away from them, Amanda muttered a curse. The last thing she needed was competition from the archer!

She stood there, feet apart.  "Aw," she pouted, "you spoiled my fun.  I was gonna chase ya all the way back to Camelot."  She grinned mildly.  "I wasn't gonna hit her with my widdle awows, I was just gonna . . .  keep shootin' till she got driven in the right direction."

"Why you green eyed little witch..." Amanda snarled. When she tried to duck around Duncan, he pushed her back. "I'll show you!"

"I'll no ha' the twain of ye fightin' over me!" the Highlander growled deep in his chest. "Aren't I man enough fer ye both?" Amanda slugged him hard in the ribs but he just laughed at her as if it had been a love tap.

When they looked up from this interchange, Yvonne was gone.  Then they heard her voice, but did not see her body.  "Fine, Big Man!  Find your own way home then.  Or have Amanda show you, if it is she you prefer!"

"Yvonne!" Duncan yelled after her, but it was too late. The green eyed monster of jealousy had full control of Yvonne at that moment in time. The Old One sighed and sent one of the other fae back to lead the two Immortals back to the Scottish Village while he set out to have a little heart to heart talk with his head strong daughter!
