Edan Federal Agency

By Donna and Abby

Paul Greaves had been in Edan for some time now.  Since he had worked with Defense back in the other world, they had let him be the liaison with the military - to take Montoya's place.  For the most part, things were working out well.  But when Sheldon Sands showed up, Methos got the idea that maybe they could use his CIA credentials to their advantage.  Greaves was put in charge of the Edan "Federal" branch, with Sands and Cole Parker (a Federal Drug Agent) as his partner.

Unfortunately, the pairing didn't exactly work out as planned. The two of them spent more time fighting than Cole and Dani did! Sands was not exactly a by the book kind of person.  He figured, if there was something not working right, you just killed off those who were making it unbalanced.

Cole, even though he was a bit unorthodox himself, disagreed with that philosophy completely. So much so, he went to Greaves and asked if a transfer could be arranged.

"Transfer?  To where?" asked Greaves petulantly.  "We only just set up the arrangement . . . and there are only two of you.  You expect to be out there on your own?"

"Done it before," he grumbled. "Look. If he pisses me off enough, I might seriously consider shooting him!"

"He'll only come back.  Or he'll shoot you!  Didn't you just say he doesn't care who he kills?"

"That's the point! And he's supposed to be a *good* guy?" Cole threw up his arms in frustration.

"If he's killing bad guys then he is a good guy," said Greaves weakly.

Cole glared at him. "You better come up with some solution, Boss, or I'm going back to the police department. I’m not tempted to shoot any of them!"

Paul Greaves did not know what to do.  Fortunately, by the end of the workday his problem was solved.  Around three, shortly after Cole had marched out in a temper, Methos showed another man with their mutual face into his office.  Agent John Krakauer had only just arrived.  Now Sands would have a partner!  But where to ship Cole?

He thought about sending him to Esperanza, but it looked like he had the makings of a good team already in place! Fox Mulder and Illya Kuryakin were not only both agents in their previous lives, they were both so into science that they had "day jobs" at the research center! It was perfect. They could be called upon for any investigations in that area that needed to be done. Both of them were willing as well, and got along just fine. So, Esperanza was out of the picture. That only left Newport.

There was no one up there!  But of course, he would have to make do alone, since he'd have no partner. Kincaid might be glad to have an extra hand up there with the problems they were facing. So, with only a little bit of trepidation, he put Cole on the Dochas, which was going to make a stop at Innocent Island before continuing on to Newport. Cole wasn't the only passenger. Tess was going there as well!

The Innocents were being found more easily these days, now that the Equinnes had settled in, and the Dochas stopped there at least once a week! As the Dochas pulled up and laid anchor in the little protected harbor, Cole scanned the shoreline. There were several beautiful women standing there, and one of them took his breath away!

Of course, she looked sweet and innocent. They all did!  But this one was almost the epitome of innocent beauty.  When he asked Queenie her name he was told, "Dodi. She's very special."

"Very special," Cole sighed. "Will she be going to school in Esperanza with the others?"

"She hasn't decided where she wants to go yet." Queenie smiled.  "You might want to work on that, on your way."  She winked at him.

Tess, the feisty older angel, couldn't help but laugh. "I'm sure he will be doing just that, won't you Cole baby?" She had been harassing him good naturedly the entire trip!

The new girls boarded the boat.  With Dodi were Blanche and Shantel. Tess immediately took all three of them under her ample wing. Between her, Cole and Captain MacLeod, Queenie was sure they were in good hands!

"Next stop, Newport!"  Of course, the girls could choose to continue on to Esperanza, or to stay in the seaside.  No one was going to force them to stay there, since it was so dangerous. When they arrived at Newport with its nice warm beaches, all three girls decided they wanted to stay, and there was no talking them out of it!

Shantel liked the singing at the club. She loved to sing.  And Blanche loved the beaches.  But Dodi had not felt about it either way.  By the time she hit the beaches of Newport, she wanted to stay wherever Cole was staying.  He had done a bit of a chatting up job on her!  Of course, most of it was because she was flattered.  But she had always been treated as something special.  Everyone called her their "treasure"! But there was something about Cole that seemed to make her want to be near him. And if he was going to be living in Newport, so would she!

As it so happened, Cole was not going to be alone in his work, either.  As if someone knew that another federal agent was needed, one showed up just before the Dochas docked!

His name was Jack Ryan. When Cole first saw him, he thought that John Book had followed him to Newport, but it was just his look-a-like. Ryan was a haunted man. Cole hadn't gotten the whole story out of him yet, but apparently something happened to his family before he crossed over to Edan.

On a trip to England, Ryan had broken up an attempt by the IRA to kidnap the crown prince and his family.  One of the attackers was killed.  His brother had sworn revenge and had come after Ryan in America!

The alarming thing was that though his family was not in Edan, his attacker was!  Sean Miller was just across the ocean in Hadez.

So, when told of the situation, Ryan had no choice. He had to stay in Newport to make sure that the Irishman did not cause anymore harm!
