Doing the Right Thing
By Donna and Abs
Sandi went with Book and Daniel to the Amish farm. On the way home they had also picked up Anna Andersen, but although Sandi had said hello to the other woman, she sat as close as she could to Book. But if she imagined a night of fun and frolic, she was about to be disappointed!
Upon arriving at the farm, she and Arista, her sister, hugged tightly. "So good to meet you!" said Arista.
"Meet?" asked Daniel. "I thought you were sisters!"
"Yes," agreed Arista, "but it was a very large party." If this answer sounded strange, no one questioned it. Things were bound to be different with this sort of situation!
The rest of the afternoon was a nightmare for Sandi. All she wanted to do was be close to Book, and get to *know* him, but she kept getting put to work every time she tried! It wasn't until milking time that evening until things started to look up. She was horrible at it, of course, but Book was patient with her. Kneeling behind her, he wrapped his arms around her, and then guided her hands into position, showing her how it was done.
She sighed, leaning back into his arms. "Now this is more like it," she said. "Isn't it a bit rude to put your company to work?"
He laughed, his breath hot on her neck. "I did warn you that it would be this way, you know."
"I thought you were asking me to dinner, not to marry you," she snickered. Again she snuggled in his arms. "Of course, marriage has *some* advantages . . ."
"Lots of advantages," he purred into her ear.
"Of course," she said, "I haven't actually experienced those advantages."
He leaned in and nibbled on her ear. "Want to?" he whispered.
"Want to get married, or just play at it?" she giggled.
"Playing is fun," he chuckled. "Especially in the hay." He motioned with his chin up to the hayloft.
"Okay," she agreed. "But some day we should go to the beach. I just love the beach!"
"Sounds good to me," he said, taking her by the hand and leading her up the ladder to where the winter supply of sweet smelling hay had been stored.
She may have been "inexperienced", but she was certainly wiling to be taught! A passionate and vivacious girl, she gave into his lovemaking without a struggle, and in fact did quite a bit of exploring herself!
Down below, the cow complained loudly at not being milked, and a short time later, Moses and Daniel came in to see what was going on. They didn't see anything, but the sound effects made it quite clear what was going on up above their heads!
Looking upward, Moses gulped and stepped back. He had never done it, nor had he been around anyone (except maybe his parents) who had! What he knew of sex came from animals. He immediately turned seven shades of red listening to what was going on up in the hayloft, especially when the couple grew vocal!
Daniel grabbed him by the arm, and dragged his younger brother out of the barn, muttering under his breath in German about the English and his sinful ways.
Sweating and more than a little uncomfortable, Moses pulled his arm free and trotted into the house. "What's wrong?" asked Arista.
Moses leaned close and whispered that Book and her sister were doing things they shouldn't be doing yet, and then blushing, he sat down. "I wish to marry you," he said firmly. If they were married, they could be doing those things too.
"And I you," she said. "You know that." She looked like she wanted to cry. They had been living in the same house now for months! But they were not permitted to touch or hold one another, just long for what would be, someday.
Anna came over and gave her a hug. Since Daniel had been courting the Norwegian, Arista had become good friends with her. "Soon, yes?" Anna said hopefully, wishing they didn't feel they had to wait for her and Daniel. Her suitor was obviously in no hurry.
Arista shrugged, then looked at Daniel imploringly, but the older brother was so upset about what he had heard, he did not pay attention. Instead he waited impatiently until Book and Sandi returned to the house.
Eventually they did, with a full pail of milk being carried between them. "I milked a cow!" she told Anna and Arista, her face bright.
But there was no brightness in that kitchen. Sandi wondered what was wrong but before she could say anything, Daniel barked, "English? We must speak!"
"Uhh ohh...," Book said with a sigh. Grinning sheepishly at Sandi, he walked up to Daniel, already knowing what he was going to talk to him about.
They started out for the barn, but then Daniel seemed to shudder and make a right turn, so they were now out in the field. But at least they were alone!
"Why are you here with us if you do not wish to follow our ways?" he asked, a stricken look on his face.
"I am following your ways, damnit!" said Book, seriously but heatedly. "What is the complaint now?"
"You and that woman were fornicating in the barn! Could you not wait until you have been wed?"
Now, Book and Sandi had been teasing about getting married, but it had only been teasing! Book had lived a long time in the modern world, and he was by no means a virgin! "I took your ways but I did not take vows!" he growled.
The two men argued back and forth for some time, till at last, Book cried out in sheer aspiration, "I will marry Sandi the day you marry Anna!"
There! The cards were on the table. Daniel had dragged his feet so much, Book figured he was safe!
Daniel started to say something, but stopped. Spinning around, he headed back to the house, walking quickly. Inside, he found the three women sitting around a table, shucking corn. "Anna!" he said, moving to her side. Kneeling down beside her, he took her hand in his. "Anna Anderson, will you marry me? Today?"
She looked totally flabbergasted, but after a moment, she nodded. "Ja. I will."
"Moses!" Daniel said as he stood, still holding Anna’s hand in his. "Go to town and get MacBain. He will marry us. Tonight." He glared at Book, who squirmed.
"Sandi," Book said, with a defiant lift to his chin, "do you want to get married?"
Sandi just giggled. "Sure."
"What about us?" asked Moses.
"Ja, ja, you too!" Daniel said, feeling strangely relieved. This was the right thing to do, he knew that now with all of his heart! This way, Moses would not have to bear up under the constant temptation to step over the line.
As Moses turned to go get the cart, a happy grin on his face, Anna stopped him, telling her future brother -in-law to stop by and get Emma. She wanted her twin sister at her wedding.
Moses nodded. He caught Arista's eye and rushed over, hugging her so hard he lifted her off the floor. They were finally going to marry!
As soon as Moses was gone, Arista reached out and contacted the Old One. He would want to be there, she knew! And he was pleased. A little surprised at the quick way Sandi had won her man, but pleased. It had been too long a wait for poor Arista, and she was genuinely crazy about Moses.
He immediately made his way to the farm, carrying an arm full of lovely fall flowers to give to the three brides as well as a package in the other. He found the girls in Arista's room, fixing each other's hair.
Of course Arista had made her own dress, and put it in her closet for the day she finally got to marry her Moses. Anna knew her sister would think to bring her best dress, but there wasn't anything for Sandi to wear! She only had one outfit, and preferred going nude!
Her father solved that problem though by giving her the package. Curious, she opened it, and gasped with pleasure when she saw a simple long sleeved gown that glimmered softly like it was covered with extremely fine sand!
"It's perfect, Father," she said as she held it up to her body.
"Go put it on, Little One," he urged, kissing her. Then he did the same for Arista. A triple wedding! How exciting!
Daniel and Book were cleaning up, putting on their Sunday suits. Daniel was still upset at the English, but was pleased that he was willing to make it right. Perhaps there was hope for him yet!
A short time later, Moses drove up in the cart, with Anna's twin sister Emma sitting beside him, her sister’s dress carefully folded on her lap. "The pastor is coming," he announced loudly to the people in the house as he helped Emma down. He was just so excited he wanted to bust! Emma ran to her sister, to hug and congratulate her, and Moses went to put on his Sunday best. A short time later, MacBain and his wife arrived. They had needed someone to watch little Miracle. But with this many weddings, the minister thought he might bring Temperance to stand as witness!
Once everyone was ready, the three couples gathered with the minister and his wife in the living room, the men in simple black suits and straw hats, the women all looking lovely in their wedding dresses. Each one of them had a bouquet of flowers in their arms.
The Old One had walked all three brides up to the preacher, so as not to seem unfair to Anna. He had, of course, only two sides, and each of his daughters took them, but Anna was happy to be on Arista's right!
The ceremony itself was simple and sweet. "I can't believe I'm doing this," Book mumbled more than once under his breath, but when it was his turn to say whether or not he took Sandi as his bride, he answered with a resounding yes!
Moses' yes was even louder. But when it came time for his answer, Daniel did not shirk his duty, either. What was rather funny was that as this was happening, various other people had started to arrive. The other fae, of course, had been told, and they came, bringing their husbands or lovers; once they began making their way there, so did others, having heard a triple wedding was in progress! And they all brought food or drink, so when the ceremony was over, the three couples turned to see tables laid out with food enough to feed all of their wedding guests, uninvited though they were! And of course, no one complained!
