Disaster in the Village

by Donna and Abs

When the wind started to pick up, the men in the Scottish Village immediately began to round up their livestock to get them undercover. It looked like a very bad storm was about to hit them. The King delegated some of his knights to go out and help them, so they were able to get it done fairly quickly. Wallace had just put his prized highland bull into a stall and was going out to see if anyone else needed help when disaster struck. One whole corner of the barn collapsed and before Wallace could get out of the way, he was buried underneath a pile of lumber!

The knights all ran to save him, hauling the wood off fairly quickly, but when they uncovered him they could see that he was hurt badly.  "Why couldn't that have happened to one of us?" the Immortal Scots asked.  Wallace was mortal!

"I don't know," said Lancelot, “but I wouldn't move him. Someone go get the doctor!"

Connor jumped bareback onto the nearest horse and raced to the gate of Camelot, yelling at the first person he saw to get the doctor and a cart out to Wallace's place, and that he was hurt and hurt bad! Giles, the royal physician was notified at once, and it was all he could do to keep his pregnant wife from going out in the storm with him!

"How bad is it?" she asked Connor.  The Highlander looked grave, then whirled his horse to race after Giles.  Melissa rubbed her belly, quietening her child, and then went herself into a sort of a trance.

~If it's bad, Father, send Ancelin here, please!~

Ancelin was back at the clinic. Katherine seemed to be safe for now from the possibility of going into premature labor, although the pregnant Immortal now had time to be worried about Connor and the members of his crew. Suddenly Ancelin stopped what she was doing, tilted her head as if listening to something, and then told Dr Helm that she had to go immediately!

"Are you going to be all right out in this?" he asked, knowing what she was.  Ancelin touched his cheek in thanks for his concern, then kissed the spot.

"Give that to my sister," she said.  "I'll be back as soon as I can."  And she went out into the tempest.

By the time she got to Camelot, they had managed to transport the injured man inside the castle and into Giles' small clinic there. It was not good. William Wallace had several broken ribs, one of which had pierced his lung and collapsed it. And Giles was sure that the man's spleen had been ruptured too!

He was doing what he could for the pnuemothorax, but he was afraid to operate on him in such primitive conditions.  He was just trying to get the place as clean and clear as possible when Ancelin came in.

She looked at him, placed her hands on him, and whispered, "Father?"

The Old One's response was favorable, and a second or two later Wallace was gasping, the healing power taking effect suddenly, like the rebirth of an Immortal.

The ruptured spleen was now good as new. Since Giles was capable of taking care of the broken ribs and the collapsed lung, Anci had been told to let him do that.  She and Melissa helped him with that procedure.

After they helped Giles in this manner, Ancelin and Melissa made sure Wallace was made comfortable.  Ancelin stayed with him all night, in case he needed anything, though Giles did take over for an hour or two so the two sisters could visit.

It was a good thing she had stayed because before the storm was over, there were quite a few injuries to treat. The royal couple themselves dropped by to express their gratitude to the healers and to see if they needed anything.

Ancelin was impressed, meeting them, but of course she did not need a thing.  If she had any discomfort at all, it was because she did not have carte blanche to rid them all of every scrape and cut!  But she was a good nurse, over and above her natural healing "magic" and Giles commented to his wife that he wouldn't mind having that sister around all the time!
