Family Stories
At this point we have not been able to document this story thru court records because the court records burnt several times.
It doesn't say what prison but does say that he was sent to the
State Pen.Rock Creek is in Oneida so what ever the State Pen was called
is
where I assume he went.  I didn't know, however, that Nimrod was also shot.

Are you sure it's true?  I'd like to add it to my notes if it can be
confirmed. The incident occurred on August 6, 1921.  I found this to be a
pretty interesting story!

Sterling and  JK Anderson were killed on the same day.  (per Sandy Beavers
the following is what her Uncle Ventis told her about the incident)  There
was a man named Mize (Mose?) Walker who had a moonshine still that J.K. and

Sterling had found out about.  There was a big election at Rock Creek the
day of August 6, 1921.  While at this election, JK and Sterling publicly
began confronting/speaking about this moonshine still and Moze (who had
been
drinking heavily) took exception to what they were saying, became enraged
and shot J.K. between the eyes and shot Sterling through the heart with a
handgun.  The shooting took place in the yard in front of the election
building.  Both J.K.'s and Sterling's families were close neighbors to
Ancil
Thomas (Sandy Beaver's grandfather).  Ancil Thomas was on of the few in the

area that had a wagon.  The families of J.K. and Sterling came to Ancil
(known as Poppy) and asked him to bring the bodies of their sons back.
Poppy went and picked up their bodies at the election and brought them back

to Nim's house and then to the cemetery.  Ventis states that Poppy brought
them by their house for my grandmother, Ollie Angel, to see (they knew
those
boys and had watched them grow up) before taking them to Nim's house.
Ventis
states, " Poppy had them in the back of the wagon, lying on their backs
with
a white sheet over them. He pulled the sheet back for Mom to see them and I

saw them myself as well. It was a tragic loss to the people in that area.
J.K. had a bullet hole in his forehead and Sterling had a hole in his chest

where his heart would have been." Poppy then took the bodies to Nim's and
then to the cemetery. Moze Walker was arrested, tried, and sentenced to 20
years in the state pen.  Ventis states he remembers his mom and dad talking

about Moze getting out of prison in the late 30's. Ventis states that J.K.
Anderson had three children with Liddy when he was shot and killed........
I
know that at least two of them were boys because Ventis stated that he used

to play with J.K.'s boys. And he stated that Sterling was also married at
the time and he believed he had at least one child when he, too, was shot
and killed, but Ventis wasn't exactly sure how many.

More on story
This story is a little different than what I heard.  I finally found the
tape by Marie Richmond.  Marie said that after Mose Walker was sent to
prison he wrote a letter to Bill Anderson and the letter was mistakenly put
in her uncle Will's mail box.  The letter said "Bill, you know that I didn't
kill K Anderson you're the one that done it."

I haven't found my letter from Christine Stinchcomb where she is telling
about the story.  Christine said that William "Black Bill" Anderson hired
Mose Walker to do the killing.  He was suppose to kill K Anderson, and two
men by the name of Angel, only one Angel was killed the other got away.  I
thought I also had a tape conversation with Nathan Byrd talking about the
killing.  I haven't found that one yet. I'll check my tapes, I think I have
Howard Washam also telling about the killing.  Willis Anderson is a grandson
of Black Bill.  I can't remember if I ever ask him about the shooting or
not.

You would probably have to find the newspaper story on this to verify the
facts of what happen.  It seems everyone has a little different story to
tell.

I'm sure that if K and the Angels were making comments about a moonshine
still loud enough for anyone to hear, they should have known they would get
shot or burned out.  Linda Kirkpatrick's grandmother (Vina Moses Davenport)
was living on a rented property and found out the property had a still on
it.  She told the guys that owned the still to move it. The next day while
Vina and her husband were working in one of their fields, their house was
burned down.  One of the babies had been left in the house asleep and who
ever torched the house carried the baby outside.  Vina was a granddaughter
of William Anderson and Betsy.
