Notes for WHIT BLANKINSHIP: Obituary - McCreary County Record, July 18 1967 McCreary Co., KY Whit Blankenship, 82, a resident of Shelbyville, Ky., died Saturday, July 15, 1967, at his home after a short illness. The body was brought to Hickman Funeral Home for Burial. The deceased was born may 12, 1885 in Scott County, Tenn., and was a son of the late Daniel and Emma Blankenship. He was a retired railroader, and was a member of the Salen Baptist Church, Hargis, Ky. Funeral services were held Monday, July 17, at 1:00 p.m. in Hickman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Melvin A. Geckes in charge. Burial was in Douglas Cemetery, Jellico, Tennessee. Mr. Blankenship is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Marie Campbell and Mrs. Bertie Cassidy, Somerset; Mrs. Jean Helton, Alexandra, Va., two sons; Orville and Herman Blankenship, Frankfort; two brothers, Elige Blankenship, Knoxville, Tenn.; and Millard Blankenship, Detroit, Mich., thirty-one grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. It is told that the sheriff undid the hand cuffs and let him go, and as he was walking away , the sheriff shot him in the back. Notes on King David "K.D." Anderson: Anderson Dies In Hospital Anderson, K.D. Taken to Rockwood After Being Wounded by Officers On Raid K.D. Anderson, who was shot through the body with a high powered rifle, on the raid made near Isham several days ago by Deputies Maynard King, Ben Fowler and Carl Watters, in conjunction with Ky. officers died at the Chamberlain Memorial Hospital at Rockwood Saturday night. Anderson was shot several miles from the still where Roosevelt Jones and himself had been found by officers and Jones instantly killed, when it is claimed by officers that he attempted to make his escape. It was revealed by an operation that the bullet had punctured his intestines. He made a brave fight for life but died after spending about a week in the hospital. Anderson is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Anderson, his widow and several children. Scott County News, Fri. 8 Oct 1926, Vol. 11, No. 28. Busy Session Circuit Court Circuit Court, in session for the past two weeks, has been facing a busy term with many important cases to be tried before Judge Buttram, who is receiving many compliments for the manner in which he is disposing of the business coming before the present term. In addition to the trial of Ben Fowler, who was given the death penalty for the murder of Dr. W.W. Foust of Robbins, Carl D. Watters was charged with the murder of K.D. Anderson several months ago when Deputy Watters shot Anderson near the State line, while on a raid there in company with other deputies. Watters was charged with killing Anderson with a high power rifle, shooting him in the back when he made an attempt to get away after being arrested. Deputy Watters was tried last Friday, the jury turning in a verdict of "Not Guilty" Saturday morning. Court will possibly last another week, with a number of liquor and civil cases on docket in addition to the murder cases mentioned above. Scott County News, Fri., 18 Mar 1927, Vol. 11, No. 51. Officer Bullet Fatal For Scott County Man K.D. Anderson, 28 of Winfield, died Saturday night at 11:00 o'clock at Chamberlain Memorial Hospital from the effects of a bullet fired at him by a Scott County officer Thursday afternoon, Sept. 23, as he was attempting to escape from a posse which arrested him at a still near the Kentucky line. Anderson was handcuffed at the time of the shooting, and made an attempt to escape from the officers by running with the handcuffs on. Roosevelt Jones, a brother-in-law of Anderson and alleged owner and operator of the still, was instantly killed as he ran when officers closed in on the place. Lemasters, 1997, page 2) One Man Killed Another Wounded Roosevelt Jones Killed and K.D. Anderson Shot in Raid Scott County officers Carl D. Watters, Ben Fowler and Maynard King accompanied by Tommy Roundtree of McCreary County, all deputy sheriffs, made a raid on Gum Fork where the trouble occurred. A still was located on Anderson Mountain where it is reported Jones resisted the officers and was killed, being carried a short distance from the still by the officers, where the officers sent for help to carry the dead man to the house of K.D. Anderson. Anderson whose house is about 150 years from the still, was arrested at the still, calling for help we understand that his wife and brother came armed. K.D. Anderson was shot enroute to Winfield, however we do not know all the particulars as to the shooting.
