The Signal Box Pub in the very tiny village of Ballybrophy, Co. Laois was both picturesque, and a nice place to have a drink in the evening.  It was actually closed when we walked up but the owner heard our footsteps crunching on the gravel outside and opened up just for us.  Try getting that kind of service in the U.S.
The Woodlands B&B in Gorey, Co. Wexford comes with several well-deserved stars and two-thumbs up from the Donovan Clan. We liked it so much we stayed 2 nights.  Be sure and ask proprietress Mrs. O'Sullivan for the story anbout the curse on the house.
