Prologue

"... and this is the guestroom, which will be your bedroom for now," BJ said leading Kaylie into the luxary bedroom with a full view of the ocean just outside the window.

"Thank you," Kaylie said as she sets her stuff onto the bed.

BJ warmly smiled and left.

Not a day in life Kaylie would would ever thought she'll be staying with the Carter's. Yeah, her parents were close friends of the Carter's, but Kaylie never actually met them before, due to college and everything. Her brother, of a matter of fact, did. This was her first time meeting them and so far, they seem prettied nice.

"Oh wow," Kaylie said stepping outside onto the little porch just outside her room and was stood in complete amazement.

There was a sun set and the ocean was calmly crashing agaisnt the rocks and the cool breeze of the air would just remind her of her fantasy dream. Walking alone the beach with her perfect mate watching the sun set together.

"Beautiful isn't she," A voice said, making Kaylie turn.

"Jane," Kaylie manged to say.

"Hope I didn't startled you," Jane said making her way towards Kaylie.

Kaylie just smiled warmly.

"Sweetie," Jane said placing her hands on Kaylie's shoulder, "I know it'll be hard for you now, but no matter what happens, you'll always be under our care and I'm sure your family would want what best for you, just as much as we do."

"I know, I just- I just miss them so much," Kaylie turned her head the other way, "It all seems like one day we were together and the next day they're all gone. I have nobody, my other relatives are outside of the country and they basically don't even like me. They said I'm spoiled by my parents and that I needed discipline. My older brother would always be there to defend me, but hey, do they listen? Nope. No one cares for me except my real family, Jane." Tears were now forming in her eyes as she tries to hide them, but Jane didn't need to see them, she heard them.

Jane quickly pulled her into a hug and held her tightly as if she was her own daughter, "Shh... it's okay, we would never think that about you. Kaylie, listen to me, they're off to a better place and you know it. They'll always be with you and they'll be watching over you every step of the way."

Kaylie just cried on Jane's shoulder knowing that she'll never let go of what happened and that it was all her fault.

"It's my fault this all happened, it's my fault I have to be here and change the lives of your family, it's all my fault!" Kaylie pushes Jane away and started screaming as if she was respondsible for the death of her own family.

"Kaylie, don't blame yourself, it's not your fault. It's nobody's fault. You nor anybody else knew what was going to happen,"

"But why them? Why?! They were all I had!"

Jane let out a sigh, "Kaylie, I know it isn't fair. I respect how you feel, but sweetie, you can't go on like this. You're here for a reason. That was the past. You need to let go," Jane said walking up to Kaylie and holding both her hands, "Just let go,"

Kaylie took a long look at Jane and nodded yes. They both embraced in a long hug as Kaylie knew she should let go, but a part of her won't, but for the sake of the Carter's and for herself, letting go is the best thing she should do. And she did, but not for long...
