Chapter 2
You’ll give it everything you got and you won’t think twice
You’d risk it all - no matter what may come
When you love someone
- Bryan Adams
Nick could barely see the road. The rain
started crashing down on the windows and making loud noises on the roof.
Leighanne was right when she said a storm is about to be hitting in, but Nick
didn’t let that bother him.
“So, Nick, where are you going, actually?”
Brian asked, still worried and concerned.
“Finding Emily,”
Brian sighed and looked in the side mirror and
saw a boat attached to the car.
“Nick, why is your boat still attached to your
car? You‘re suppose to leave it in the garage like I told you to this morning,”
“We’re taking my boat out to sea to find her,
Brian.”
“What? Nick, are you crazy?” Brian couldn’t
believe what he was hearing, “We can die out in the middle of the sea, Nick!”
Nick just kept quiet and drove through the
rain.
“Fine, I’m sorry. I said I’ll help you and
that’s what I’m going to do,” Brian forced a smiled.
“Thanks,” Nick replied calmly, keeping his eyes
on the road.
“Where are we going to Nick?” Brian asked
looking out the window, “Lake Hill’s Dock is on the other exit.”
“I need the guys too, Brian. I think it’s best
if they come. You know, to help me.”
“I hope your right,” Brian mumbled.
Kevin’s House:
“… What do you mean, you’re looking for
Emily?!” Kevin yelled, “What are you crazy, Nick?”
“Well, maybe I am, but I’m not going to let
Emily go and who knows where she is, now?” Nick shouted back.
“That’s my point, who knows where she could be
in the middle of this storm!” Kristin, Kevin’s wife, eyed Kevin to calm down,
“Look, Nick, I-”
“Kevin, I just want you to help me, that’s
all,” Nick sigh when Kevin didn’t say anything, “AJ? D?” They were sitting on
the couch next to their wives as well. They were deep into thoughts.
“Sure man, we’re behind you all the way,” AJ
said.
“Yeah, bro, you can count on us,” Howie added.
Nick smiled at them then turned back to Kevin
who had his head in his hands with his wife standing next to him; reasoning
with him to do what he felt was best.
Kevin looked up and walked up to Nick, and nodded
yes. They both embraced in a brotherly hug.
All the guys left in Nick’s car as Kristin and
the other wives left to Brian’s house to stay with Leighanne while the guys are
out searching for Emily.
Lake Hill’s Dock:
“C’mon, let’s go,” Nick shouted, “We got to
hurry!”
The guys a-boarded the boat and started heading
out to sea to look for Emily. The rain was still prettied heavy and the guys,
except Nick, fear something might happen when they’re out in the middle of the
sea all alone.
“Alright, AJ? You drive the boat, D? You take
care of the search lights when it gets dark and Brian and Kevin, you guys
spread throughout the boat and shout if you see anything, okay?” Nick ordered.
The guys nodded.
“Alright, c’mon guys, let’s go!” Kevin yelled
as he grabbed a binocular and started looking.
20 Minutes Later:
“Nick, I think we should be heading back, now!”
Brian called as something caught his attention.
“What?” Nick couldn’t hear from all the waves
crashing onto the boat and rain splashing all over the place.
“I said we-” Suddenly a huge wave hit against
the boat and almost knocked everyone over.
“AHHHHH!!!!!” A voice screamed. Everyone was
almost thrown off board, but instead, went flying all over the place.
“AJ, turn the boat! Turn the boat!” Brian
shouted over the storm trying to find his balance.
AJ quickly turned the boat and tried to avoid
the direction of the wave that was coming in.
“Everyone ok?” Kevin asked, getting up from the
ground all wet and soaked.
“Yeah,”
“I’m fine,”
“Yup,”
Kevin looked around. He didn’t hear Nick’s
voice or saw him anywhere. He began to get worried, “Guys, where’s Nick? Why
isn’t he here?”
“Oh my god! Nick’s in the water!” Howie yelled
as he turned the searchlights towards the direction Nick was in. Nick was
waving his hands in the air screaming, “Helppp!!” Water kept coming in his
mouth every second he opened it to scream out to the guys. It looked like he
couldn’t stay a-float.
“Jesus, someone get him out, another wave is
coming towards this way!” AJ screamed.
All the guys turned their heads and saw a huge
wave coming towards them.
“D, come with me. We’re going in.” Kevin said
as he unbuttons his shirt, took off his shoes (I know what you’re thinking and
so am I! LoL) and jumped in the cold, icy water. Howie fallowed.
Just then, Brian cell phone went off
~*~
“He’s over there! Hurry!” Howie shouted as he
directed Kevin over to Nick.
“Guys, Over here-” Nick started to slipped
under water, but tried to push himself up, “Helppp!! I- I can’t move! -” And
Nick’s head quickly went under water.
“Nick!!!!” Kevin screamed as he and Howie swim
faster over to Nick.
~*~
“Hello?”
“Brian? Oh my god, where are you?!” Leighanne
asked worried.
“I’m here with the guys at Lake Hill’s Dock.” Brian
tried his hardest to hear through all the static.
“What’s going on?”
“Oh god, Leigh, Nick fell overboard!”
“What? What are you guys doing out at sea?!”
“Nick wanted-”
“Brian please, come back. Its still raining
hard and you know it’s dangerous! A storm is heading your way, Brian. Come
back!”
“I know, but- “ Then the phone clicked, “What
the? My- my phone is dead! Hello? Leigh?!” Brian puts it back up to his ear and
couldn’t hear anything but static.
“What’s wrong?” AJ called out.
“I can’t get any signal,” Brian said as a
sudden wave went crashing down onto the boat.
“No, not again!!” AJ screamed and turned the
boat as far as he could, “Hold on!”
“Ahhhh!!!” Brian screamed out in fear.
“Hang on, Brian!” AJ yelled.
Brian quickly looked around to see what he
could hold onto, but before he can reach out to hold onto the rail, another
wave went crashing down onto the boat as he fell down and was blacked out.
~*~
“Howie look out!!!” Kevin screamed as a wave
went crashing down on them and sending them all under water.
Kevin tried to look for Howie and Nick, but
couldn’t see a thing. As he tried to swim to the surface, he saw Howie swimming
towards him.
“Kev, hey Kev!” Howie shouted, “I found him!
He’s stuck!”
Kevin eyes widened and quickly swim over to
where Howie was as both guys dove under water. Howie pointed to where Nick was
as they both swim over to Nick, who was pointing to his mouth. He was almost
out of breath. Kevin looked at him and down to his feet and saw his feet stuck
to a rock.
Kevin quickly pulled out a knife under his
socks and cuts lose Nicks’ shoelace. It ripped and Nick slipped his wounded
foot out as Howie and Kevin helped carried him out as quickly as they can, so
he can get some oxygen.
Nick was breathing hard as they reached the
surface of the water.
“Nick, you alright?” Kevin asked.
Nick shook his head in pain, “I- I think my leg
is broken. When I fell overboard, this rock from that cliff,” Nick pointed to
the cliff that Emily died from, “came tumbling down on me. It hurts. I can’t
feel it.”
“Where does it exactly hurt?” Howie asked, and
felt his foot for any broken bones as Nick suddenly cried out in pain.
“AHHH!!! Stop! Please, it hurts really bad!”
Nick begged.
“C’mon, we got to get you outta here.” Kevin
said as both he and Howie help Nick swim back to the boat.
“No wait,”
“Nick you have-” Howie started.
“No, look!” Nick pointed towards the direction
of a huge wave coming over them.
“Nick, hold onto us and don’t let go!!!” Kevin
shouted as another wave came crashing down on them as the guys tried their best
to hold onto each other underwater.
The guys fought with the force of the water
that was dragging them farther and farther away from each other as Nick started
slipping away, but Kevin quickly grabbed Nick by his leg.
They made it to the surface as Nick cried out
in pain again.
“Ahh!! My leg, Kev, my leg!” Nick cried out
loud
“I‘m sorry, but you need to hang on and be
strong, Nick,” Kevin said.
“I can’t move my feet, it hurts,”
“We need to get you to the boat, just hang on,”
Howie said in-between the water that was in his mouth.
”C’mon, lets hurry!” Kevin said as he held Nick
in his arm and the other, he pushed forward as fast as he could to get to the
boat.
Waves were crashing down on them every second
of the way and the boat seems to be going farther and farther away.
~*~
“Brian, you alright?!”
There was no answer. AJ didn’t hear anything
except the noises of the storm and rain.
“Oh my god, Brian!” AJ started panicking as he
saw Brian‘s body laid lifelessly on the ground. He knew Leighanne would die if
something happened to him, “Jesus, are you alright?!” AJ bend down to where
Brian’s body laid and held his head up. AJ then saw a big cut down the side of
his head, “Dammit, he must of hit the rail,”
Suddenly, AJ heard a groan.
“Brian? Brian, can you hear me?” AJ shook him
softly, “Are you okay?”
Brian started breathing hard, “My- My head. It-
it hurts,” Brian said as he touched the side of his head and made a face due to
the pain.
“Yeah, I know. C’mon, we got to get outta
here.” AJ said helping Brian up, “We got to get the guys back onto the boat.”
“Where are they?” Brian asked looking around.
“They’re in the water still, I guess, but they
need to get out. The storm is really heading this way and the waves are really
getting big.”
“AJ, I- I see them, they’re over there!” Brian
said pointing out to the water, “Hurry, let’s go!”
AJ quickly ran back to the wheel and drove the
boat over to where Howie, Nick and Kevin were before another wave can get to
them first.
~*~
“I see the boat, it’s over there. Hurry, swim!”
Howie shouted.
“I can’t!” Nick yelled.
“C’mon Nick, you have to try. We’re almost there.”
Kevin said, holding onto him tightly, a sudden wave came over them again and
split them apart as Nick couldn’t stay above surface any longer and drowned.
Kevin started panicking as he and Howie looked
around for Nick.
“Oh my god, where is he?!” Kevin shouted
“Kev, over here!” Howie waved him over, “He’s
over here!”
“Get him! Get him out!” Both Kevin and Howie
swim in and pulled Nick out.
Kevin took a quick look at him as they reached
the surface. Kevin then held Nick‘s head up and leaned in to hear his heart
beat, “Howie, He- he isn’t breathing…”
