Chapter 1
“Nick please, come inside,” Brian said,
standing on the front porch begging Nick to get out of the rain.
“No,”
“Nick, you’re going to catch a cold and you
know we’re having a sound check first thing tomorrow morning-”
“Then I won‘t go!”
Brian let out a sigh and grabbed an umbrella
near the door and walked out to Nick, who’s sitting on the steps crying.
“Nick look, you have-”
“No Brian, you look!” Nick quickly stood up and
spun around looking down at Brian as tears went streaming down his face, “How
would you feel if Leigh was out there in Emily’s position. Out there in
the cold, not knowing what to do or where to go?” Nick was ready to break down
and cry again, but he held it back, “And most importantly Brian, carrying your
first unborn child, how would you feel to lose all that, huh?!” Nick
wanted to continued, but chose to stop and let his emotion run, “H- How would
you feel?”
Brian quickly placed the umbrella down and went
to comfort his friend as they both stood standing in the middle of the rain.
“Nick I’m sorry, I know Nick, I know,” Brian
never knew Nick felt so much pain for Emily. Ever,“ “I- I would… I would feel
the same way, Nick. I really would.”
Nick buried his face in Brian’s shoulder and
cried, “She didn’t deserve this, Brian, She didn’t at all,”
“I know Nick, I know,” Brian suddenly felt
Nick’s pain, but didn’t know how to help, “I’m sorry Nick, I really am,’
“Why did they take her away from me, Brian,
Why?!” Nick tried to speak in between his sobs, “She all I had, Brian, What am
I without her?”
“Frack, the police are still out there
searching for her, you know that, you just need to calm down, get some rest and
pull yourself together, buddy.”
“No Brian, NO! Never!” Nick quickly pushed
Brian away and ran into Brian’s house.
In Brian’s House
“Nick, are you ok?” Leighanne called after him
from the kitchen as she watched him slammed the door and ran up stairs to the
guestroom. Nick hasn’t be able to return back home. It just brings back to much
memory of Emily he couldn’t handle.
“LEAVE ME ALONE!” With that, Nick slammed the
guestroom door as hard as he could.
Filled with confusion and sorrow, Brian came in
the house not aware of Nick’s action.
“Where‘s Nick?” Brian had to asked.
Leighanne, his wife, just sighed and shook her
head in disbelieve, “In the guestroom. You know, this isn’t easy for him,
Brian”.
Brian sighs as he flopped down on the couch,
“It isn’t easy for all of us,“ Brian looked at Leighanne, “I couldn’t tell
Nick, but the police told me yesterday on the phone that in three days, if they
can’t find Emily or should I say, ‘her body‘, they’ll announced that she’s
officially dead, but we all know by now that he won’t ever accept that. Not one
bit.” Brian tried his hardest to explained to his wife who was stood standing
in complete shock.
Leighanne walked over to Brian and made a
reached for his hands and held it tightly as she looked him in the eyes. “He
doesn‘t deserve this. He shouldn‘t go through all this pain, like this.”
“I know, that’s why its hard for him to cope
with her death,”
Leighanne nodded in agreement, “You would feel
the same way as Nick if I- I was in Emily’s position won’t you, Brian?”
“I wouldn’t live another day knowing you were
gone,” Brian leaned in a gave her a peck on the cheeks, “Beside, that wouldn’t
happen, because you’ll always be in my protection.”

Nick sat down beside his bed and cried with his
head in his hands, “Why God, WHY?! Why Emily? Why my Emily?!!” Nick
looked up and a picture of Emily and him that sat on the desk drawer caught his
attention. He grabbed the picture as he gazed at it. It was their wedding
picture. They were on the finest beach for their wedding, everything was
perfect. It was a dream come true for the both of them.
“Why, my Emily?” Nick sobbed, he closed
his eyes and thought back to their wedding night with the picture held close to
his heart.
Flash Back
“Do you, Nick, take Emily to be your wedded
wife? Will you love her, comfort her, honor her, and keep her in sickness and
in health until death do you part?” The priest asked.
“I do,” I knew then at that very moment that I
made the right decision to marry her. The day I first laid eyes on her, I knew
it was love at first sight.
“And Emily, do you take Nick to be your wedded
husband? Will you love him, comfort him,
honor him, and keep him in sickness and in
health until do you part?” The priest repeated.
“I do,” I watched as Emily said those two words
that a man wished to hear. Emily was everything to me, my life, my soul, my
friend and soon to be my wife. How can I not love her?
And they said “… till death do you part,” and
we both said “I do’s”.
We’re suppose to die old together, I’m not
suppose to bury my baby, My baby bury me! They said “… Till death do us part”!,
but they lied!!
“Till death do us part, Emily,” Nick said as he
opened his eyes and realized he was crying the whole time, “You’re not suppose
to die like this. Not this! You never deserve this!”
Nick gazed at the picture again and kissed it.
He placed it back on the desk drawer as a key caught his eyes. Without a
thought he grabbed the keys and his jacket and stormed out his room.
~*~
“Brian, can you please go call Nick down,
dinner is ready,”
“The last time I tried, all I got was screaming
and yelling. And oh yeah, did I mentioned I almost got hit by a shoe? And it’s
a Nike too!”
“Well, can you please try again?” Leighanne
asked setting the table, “He needs to eat, you know,”
“Ok, ok, ok,” Brian ran upstairs and when he was
about to knock on Nick’s door, it opened and Nick almost hit into him.
“Whoa,” Brian eyes widened, “Slow down, Buddy,
Where you going?”
“Out,” Nick pushed pat Brian and started
walking down stairs.
“What?” Brian asked, “Well, I mean, Leighanne made
dinner and-”
“And I’m not eating!” Brian followed.
~*~
“Hey Nick, dinner is ready,” Leighanne said as
she saw Nick coming down stairs.
“Sorry Leigh, I’m not going to eat tonight,”
Nick said looking into Leighanne’s eyes hoping she would understand.
“But you never eat dinner with us,” Brian
stated
“I know,”
“Well then, where are you going, Nick?”
Leighanne asked, worried.
Nick looked at Brian, who looked upset, then
turned to leighanne, “Look, I don’t want you guys to worry, but I’m going out
to look for Emily.”
“What?!” Both Brian and Leighanne exclaimed
“Bye,” Nick said as he turned to leave, but
Leighanne held him back.
“Nick please, you can’t. Think about it.
Besides. A storm is hitting in and I won’t let you go,”
“Yeah Nick, don’t.” Brian came closer to him.
“It the only way, you guys?”
“How is it the only way, Nick? Huh?!” Leighanne
screamed, “Nick, just don’t go,”
“I love her, and I’m going to get here back at
any cost. Even if I have to risk my own life for it,” Nick pushed Leighanne’s
arms away and left.
“Nick, I’ll help you. I’ll help you Nick, Just
don‘t go alone,” Brian said placing his hands on Nick’s shoulder as to letting
him know his best friend is their for him.
“What?” Leighanne asked in shock.
“Leigh look, I want to help Nick. I now it’s a
lot to ask in the middle of this storm, but it’s the only way for Nick to move
on. You have to understand.” Brian came closer to Leighanne and held her hands.
“Its just too dangerous, Brian.” Leighanne
said, tears forming in her eyes, “I love you and I know it can help him, but I
don’t want to lose you,”
“I love you too, but someone got to help him,”
Leighanne just leaned in and hugged him, “Then
go help him, I’ll be here waiting for you then, ok?”
Brian smiled.
“I love you, remember that,” Leighanne kissed
him on the lips then Brian let go of her and left with Nick.
“I’ll be back, I promise,” Brian smiled as
Leighanne watched as the two guys jumped into nick’s car, “I love you too,”
Brian mouthed at Leighanne as Nick drove off.
