Chapter 9

I woke up the next day and saw Nick sleeping in a chair that was next to my bed. I saw a nurse come
into the room and change my Iv bag that had been hooked up to me last night. I looked back over to
Nick, he had a smile on his face. I wonder what he was dreaming about. My thoughts wandered off to my
well our baby. I wanted to know how she was doing. I saw Dr. Smith was into my room and come up to
 where I was.

"Hello Rachael" Dr. smith said.

"How is she?" I asked. I saw Dr. Smith frown.

"The odds still don't look good, I think you and your boyfriend should be prepared for anything that
could happen" Dr. Smith said as I nodded my head.

"How much of a chance does she have to live?" I asked, tears filling my eyes as Dr. Smith looked at me
 with sympathy in his eyes.

"Less then 50%" he said as tears flowed quickly down my cheeks, "I'm sorry to say this, but I think you
and your boyfriend should start getting a funeral ready". I heard a beep and knew it was Dr. Smith's
pager. He checked it and moved forward to shake my hand.

"Sorry Rachael I need to take care of another patient but I'll come back to see you if anything about
your baby comes up" He said as he took my hand and shook it. I shook his back as he walked out of the
room. I saw Nick stir in his sleep as he opened his eyes.

"Hey baby" He said as he walked over to me and kissed my cheek gently.

"Nick, Dr. Smith came in today" I said as Nick sat back down.

"And"? He asked as tears started to flood my eyes again.

"he said we should start making funeral arrangments for Faith, She hardly has a 50% chance to live" I
said as he pulled me into  tight hug and let me  cry into his chest.

"Whatever the circumstances well make it through this rach" He said as he kissed my head. I fell asleep
in Nick's arms hoping our baby would be fine.
