I walked into Nick’s room and saw him
sleeping. I didn’t see AJ anywhere, so
they must have moved him to a different room to rest.
I pulled up a chair and watched him sleep. Why
have I been so harsh on him when he only wanted my friendship back? Tears
came to my eyes. I pushed him away
again, didn’t I?
I
started to stand up, as Nick started to stir in his bed. I looked back at him and saw his blue eyes
gazing up at me. I sat back down
slowly, as we looked at each other in silence for a few moments.
“When
are you going to leave me again?” Nick asked in a small voice.
“Nick, don’t start this, please. I came in here to save our friendship, not
to fight,” I said as Nick’s hands grabbed onto the rail of the bed. He yelled in pain, as I looked at him,
scared. His knuckles turned white from
holding onto the rail tightly, as I pressed the nurse button on his remote
control repeatedly. His eyes started to
close as I shook him lightly.
“Don’t you dare close your eyes, Nick. You’re not going to die on me!” I said, as a
few nurses ran into the room.
I
watched in horror as they tore open Nick’s hospital gown, as Dr. Martinez ran
in. A short nurse walked up to me and
took me to the door.
“We’ll let you know what’s happening to your
friend as soon as we find out,” she said, as she closed the door in my face.
I ran
to Kevin’s room and saw AJ and Howie in there talking, while Kevin slept. I ran
in as they both looked up at me.
“Brian, what’s wrong?” AJ asked as I tried to
catch my breath.
“N…Nick…” I said, as I grabbed at my throat,
trying to breathe in the air that surrounded me, but didn’t come.
“Nick what?” Howie asked as I fell to my knees
and gasped for breath. I saw mumbled
words come from AJ’s mouth as my head collapsed on the floor.
Howie and AJ came toward me as my vision
started to blur. I saw their mouths
move, as my world slowly started to go black.
