Chapter 5

Mel tossed and turned in her bed finally sitting up. She got out the bed and walked to the door. Looking out glancing down the hall she saw that Nick's door was closed. She crept out the door and down the steps to the kitchen. She turned on the light and walked to the stove. Taking the tea pot she walked to teh sink and filled it with water. She sat it back on the stove and turned it on. Walking back to the table she sat down and waited. She sat at the table playing with the table cloth and staring off into space. The tea pot started to whistle and she stood up. Walking to the cabinet she took a cup and poured some water into the cup. She took the tea bag and put it in th ecup. She walked back over to the table and sat down moving the tea bag in and out of the cup.

"I though that was you" Mel turned to see Nick walk into the kitchen. She turned back around and continued to play with her tea.

"want some tea" she asked

"nah, why you down here?" Nick asked taking a seat across from Mel at the table.

"just thinking"

"bout what"

"just thinking"

"about Max?"

"yeah" Mel said in barely a whisper

"Mel what happened"

"I told you he cheated on me for the last time" as she brought the cup up to her lips and blew before taking a sip.

"Mel thats not what happened"

"Nick I said that was all"Mel said as she sat her cup down

"Mel you've changed it's like i don't know you anymore. what did he do to you. I want my bestfrined back"

"Nick I havent changed"

"yeah you have, that little sparkle in your eyes is gone and that smile of yours not that fake one you put off to everyone else but the real one" Mel looked away from Nick and stared down in her cup. Nick grabbed Mels hand and she looked at me.

"Mel tell me what really happened" Mel took a deep breath as tear slipped down her cheek. She wiped it away quickly.

"Mel what happened?"

"he treated m elike a piece of crap and it hurts because I accepted it. I knew that he was cheating but I kept taking him back and hed do it again. I fell so stupid" Mel said as more tears fell.

"hed yell and tell me that I was worthless and i meant nothing to him and I let it happen" Mel wiped her face with the back of her hands but seconds later more tears came. Nick moved closer to Mel wrapping his arms around her.

"I'm sorry you had to go through that"

"yeah me too" Mel said wipeing her eyes.

"come on lets get you to bed" Nick stood up and helped Mel. They walked out the kitchen with Nick turning off the light. They walked up to Mels bedroom and over to the bed.

"Nick"

"yeah"

"can you stay with me tonight" Mel asked as she got in the bed.

"sure" Nick walked over to the bed and got in. He layed down and Me layed her head on his shoulder. Nick pulled the cover over them and kissed Mel on her forehead.

"Nick"Mel whispered

"yeah"

"can you sing to me?"

"what song?"

"if you knew what i knew" Nick started to sing and Mel closed her eyes slowly falling into a peaceful sleep.
