Chapter 16
Kevin's mouth dropped open. He looked over at the doctor and saw
him motioning for them to go outside. After murmuring a few soothing words to
Brian, Kevin joined the doctor outside.
"Does he have amniesa?" Nick's voice was shaking as he
asked the question.
"Seeing as he knew who Kevin was the answer is no." The
doctor answered. "Infact this is quiet common. Brian suffered a serious
trama from this exprience and his mind is forcind him to forget. Usually we
would say to tell the patient the truth, but in this case..." he trailed
off for a second. "I would say it would be in his best intrest to
lie."
Howie glared at the doctor. Brian was the only person who knew
what had happened, and now this man wanted to take that away. To leave him
alone.
Howie suddenly shook his head. What was he thinking? Brian didn't
have to remember that horrible exprince, all the better for him. He had seen
his own eyes while Brian was shattered in Ralph's hands. And he didn't want to
see that happen again.
"What do we tell him?" He asked.
The doctor stopped to ponder the question. A believable lie on how
you got shot was always tough to come up with up. Finally the doctor snapped
his fingers.
"You guys are stars." he stated. "Tell him one of
your bodyguard's guns misfired and he and Howie got in the way. he broke his
ribs when he fell."
Kevin nodded. It was believable because it had happened before.
Except that time noone had gotten in the way. He sighed deeply.
"I'll tell him." he announced. "You all know I'm
best at lying."
This got a smile from AJ. he crossed his arms over his chest and
shok his head.
"I don't think so old man." he joked. "I am the
king."
Kevin laughed lightly as he walked back into Brian's room. He
stopped short with a gasp.
Brian had somehow pulled himself into a sitting postion. Sweat
glistened on his forehead and his breaths came in pained gasps. Kevin ran to
his side.
"Lay down Brian." He said sternly, easing Brian back
down on to the pillow. "You'll bust your stiches."
"S-stiches?" Brian gasped and clenched his jaw against
another onslaught of pain. "What happened to me?"
"It was a freak accident." Kevin felt bad for lying, but
he still continued. "One of the bodyguard's guns misfired and you and
Howie got hit. You gotta take it easy cause when you fell you broke a couple
ribs."
Brian's mouth was hanging open. He subconsciously placed a hand
over his wound.
"How's Howie?" He finally managed to ask.
"Fine."
Brian's gaze shot to the doorway. There sat Howie in a wheelchair.
Worry punched Brian leaving him feeling nauseous.
"What happened to your legs?" he asked in a trembling
voice.
"Nothing." A smile spread across Howie's face.
"They think cause I busted my shoulder that I can't walk."
Brian's features eased. H sagged against the pillows with a tired
smile. He yawned as his eyelids began to droop.
"So everyone's okay." His words slurred with sleep.
"And no one will mind if me getting some sleep."
Kevin gently patted his shoulder. "Go ahead." he
whispered. "You could use it."
Brian was out before Kevin finished his sentence. He turned to
Howie and smiled when he saw Howie's eyelids were also getting heavy. Walking
over to him, he began to wheel Howie out of the room.
"Let's get you back to your bed." He smiled. "You
could use some sleep too."
Howie nodded with a yawn. He must had fallen asleep, because Kevin
woke him while gently lifting him into his bed. Howie offered him a groggy
smile as a thank you.
"He's going to be okay." He murmured, slowly drifting
off. "He made it."
Kevin smiled gently and patted Howie's good shoulder.
"You're both going to be okay." He whispered. "You
both made it."
