Nick entered the hospital room where he saw Jessica laying
motionless. He walked over to the bed
and kneeled down. He touched her arm
softly, not wanting to hurt her. The
doctors had just told him that she would not wake from the coma and would die
in two hours or less.
He reached his hand into his pocket and pulled out a small cylinder
with a green liquid in it. He smiled
down at Jessica.
Why? he asked himself, Why did this have
to happen on our wedding day?
He put the container to his lips and began to drink. He stopped when Jessica’s hand touched his
face. He took away the container when
she smiled at him. It was already
getting hard to breath. She looked at
him with concerned eyes realizing what he had done.
“Have you none left for me?” she asked, looking
down at the cylinder that was almost empty.
Nick’s body began to shake as the poison began to work. Jessica held on to him tightly as his body
began to go limp. She looked down at the small cylinder and sighed - there
wasn’t enough.
“Was it poison? Why? Why would you leave in
this cruel world all alone?” she demanded.
Nick looked up at her with dying eyes.
“Maybe if I kiss you, the poison will leave
your lips and onto mine,” Jessica replied, making their lips touch. She drew back.
“With a kiss
and I…” Nick trailed off. Jessica felt
his body go limp. She shook her head,
not wanting to believe it. She took the
cylinder in her hands and looked into it.
Nick was gone; there was no reason to live. She reached into his jacket and smiled at what she found. She pulled put the small metal object and
placed it to her temple.
