Chapter 1: The Agent
So, I'm at drama class right, and it's over, so I'm outside waiting
for my mom. So, me Ronnie and Christina were fighting about boy
bands. That was a common scene after Drama on Saturdays.

"Nsync
is so dumb." Ronnie said.

"Oh,
I know you did not just diss Nsync." Christina yelled.

"So
what if I did."

"We
are so gonna kick you're a**." I laughed.

"That's
if you can catch me." Just then Momma drove up in the car.

"Bye
guys." I said.

"Bye."
They said.

"See
ya next Saturday."
We drove for about three minutes before anyone said anything.

"So,
how was your class?" my mom asked.

"It
was great. I had fun today. Wait, this isn't the way home."

"I
know. We're not going to my house."

"Then
where are we goin?"

"Well,
I signed you up for an agent, and they wanted to meet you today."
I just sat there with my mouth wide open for a minute.

"Did
you talk to Dara and daddy about it? If you didn't they're not
gonna like it."

"Relax.
I asked them first."

"Oh,
good. That's so cool."

"There's
another thing you might like about this guy."

"What?"

"You
know Jesse from Dream Street."

"How
could I not?"

"Well,
this guy's Jesse's agent as well."

"No
way."

"Yep."

"Jesse's
gonna be there when you meet the guy too. I asked him to ask Jesse
to come. I thought it might be nice for you to have someone to
ask for tips, you know."

"I'm
gonna meet Jesse?"

"Yep."

"I
think I'm gonna cry."

"Why."

"Mommy,
I'm about to meet my all time crush. Jesse McCartney from Dream
Street, and I'm gonna have the same agent as him. If that happened
to you, wouldn't you be so excited that you would cry?"

"Good
point. Here we are."

"Mommy?"

"Yea."

"Can
I use your cell? I think I think I need to call one of my friends."

"Yea
sure, but you can't be on for that long."

"Yea,
just give me five minutes."

"Ok."
I decided to call my friend Chevalia. She was always home.

"Hello?"
Chevalia's sister said when she picked up the phone."

"Hey,
Chevalia there?"

"Yea,
wait up."

"Hello?"
Chevalia said.

"Hey
what's up?"

"Nuthin."

"Guess
what?"

"What?
You just saw Justin."

"No,
better."

"What?"

"Momma
got me an agent, and he's Jesse's agent. The one from Dream Street.
And

Jesse's
gonna be there when I go meet the guy." I was totally freaking
out.
There was silence on the other side of the phone, and then Chevalia
exploded. "What? You're kidding."

"No,
I've never been this dead serious in my whole entire life."

"Oh,
my God, you're gonna meet Jesse?"

"Yea."

"When
you meet Chris, get an autograph for me?"

"Yea,
but I don't think I'll be meeting him for a while. But when I
do, I promise I will. But right now, Jesse's standing in front
of me watching me go totally crazy, and he's doing the Justin
thing and lookin at me like I'm some sorta freak. I can't say
I blame him though. Cuz I'm talking so fast I don't think even
you can understand me."

"Girl,
this isn't the first time you've freaked out like this. I totally
understood everything you said."

"Good,
I gotta go calm down so I can talk to Je- Holy s-t."

"What?"

"Justin
just walked in."

"Justin
Timberlake?"

"Don't
I wish? No, worse. Justin Estavillo."

"Justin
just walked in?"

"Yea.
Looks like I'm not the only one tryin to get this guy."

"Well,
go say something to him."

"Fine,
bye."

"See
ya soon. Call me as soon as you leave and tell me how it went."

"I
will, I promise. How could I not?"

"Bye."

"Bye."

"Ave,
I'm leaving, call me when you wanna leave." Momma said when
I gave her, her cell.

"K."

"Justin,
what the hell are you doin here?" I said to Justin when my
mom left.

"Me,
what about you?"

"My
mom wants to get me an agent."

"Me
too."

"This
so sucks."
Then Jesse walked over and said, "Hey, I see you two have
already met."

"Yea,
unfortunately for me." I said, looking disgusted.

"Do
you two know each other from somewhere else?"

"Yea,
school." Justin said, giving me a very evil look.

"Well,
I know you didn't ask for my advice, but, I think you guys should
try and get along, cuz you guys will probably be doin a lot together."
I looked at Justin and said, "God, do you have to ruin everything
for me?" I was almost crying now.

"What's
that supposed to mean?" Justin snapped.

"First,
you came to my school, and take all my favorite teachers, and
brainwash 'em."

"Who
are your favorite teachers?"

"Mr.
Chase and Mrs. Hanley. God, sense you came, Mr. Chase doesn't
laugh at me anymore, and Mrs. Hanley, who was always on my side
for everything, is now always on your side. Then, you take Michael,
who was my friend last year, and now I can't talk to him, cuz
I want nothing to do with anyone that's your friend. So thanks
to you, I lost a perfectly good friend. Then, on top of all that,
the day I find out my mom's trying to get me an agent, and I get
to meet my all time, hugest crush, you have to come and mess it
all up. You always mess everything up for me." I screamed.

"Oh.
So now you're blamin everything on me." Justin screamed back.

"Only
cuz it's true."

"B****."

"Oh,
ok, make me the bad guy."

"That's
right. You're making me sound like a total @$$."

"Only
cuz you are."

"Ho."

"Ogay
uckfay ourselfyay."

"Ooh."
Jesse said, making a face.

"You
know Pig Latin?" I asked.

"Yea.
Does he?"

"Don't
think so, e'shay ootay tupidsay ootay owknay owhay. And guess
what, Justin. You can't get me in trouble cuz we're not at school."
Me and Jesse started laughing really hard. Justin rolled his eyes
and walked away.

"You
really hate him, don't you?" Jesse asked when we finally
stopped laughing.

"Yea.
He's a real jerk."

"Why
do ya hate him so much?"

"Well,
It's an extremely long story, so I'll make it short. When we were
in 6th grade, I didn't know him yet, but he did the same thing
to me that he did to one of my best friends. But he didn't try
and get her in trouble. He doesn't know we're best friends yet.
Well, this year, in 7th grade, I met him cuz he's in my P.E class,
and I had a huge crush on him. A few weeks later, he asked me
out. Then, he started totally ignoring me. The next day, he dumped
me. Then, about a month later, he started making deals with my
friends, like if they didn't get them in trouble, he'd ask me
out.

"Well,
he never asked me out again. That doesn't even bug me. It's the
fact that he was making deals with my friends that really pissed
me off. Then he started talking s-t about me, so I went to the
counselor's office and made an agreement. If my friends didn't
leave him alone, he could get me in trouble, and if his friends
didn't leave me alone, I could get him in trouble. Well, my friends
wouldn't leave him alone, so he tried to get me suspended. I didn't
get suspended though. His friend Nick never left me alone, but
I didn't have the heart to get him in trouble for something his
stupid friend was doin. Maybe I should've gotten him in trouble.
Then he probably wouldn't be ruining this perfect day for me."
Jesse didn't say anything for a minute, then, he said, "Wow.
Now I see why you hate him so much. But I don't see why he hates
you."

"I
don't either."
Then, from across the room, he yelled, "Cuz you're a b****."
Right then I jumped up and was about to slap him, when Jesse grabbed
my arm.

"Don't."

"Give
me one good reason."
Jesse thought for a minute, then said, "Well, if you pretend
to get along, and I tell my agent that you guys hate each other,
but you're trying to get along, that might increase your chances
of him taking you."

"Well,
I guess it wouldn't hurt to pretend to get along."

"Ok,
good. Hey, I never got your names."

"Oh,
sorry, I'm Ave."

"I'm
Justin." Justin said sulkily. I sat in a chair and started
to cry.

"I
need to call Chevalia." I said.

"You
can use my cell." Jesse replied.

"Do
you always call that ho for everything?" Justin asked.

"She's
not a ho, she's one of my best friends, so shut your big, fat,
stupid mouth so I don't have to see your ugly buck teeth."
Justin just sat there with his mouth wide open, just gapping at
me, there were tears streaming down my face. Justin's face was
red with anger.

"Hello?"
Chevalia's sister said when he picked up the phone.

"Chevalia
home?"

"Wait
up. Chevalia, it's your friend Ave, she's crying."

"Hello?
Are you ok?" Chevalia asked.

"I
think so, but I'm not sure." I said.

"What
happened?"

"Justin's
tryin to get same agent as me. And I just insulted him really
really bad." I said, still crying.

"Girl,
I feel so sorry for you."

"Oh,
guess what."

"What?"

"He
called you a ho."

"What
a stupid @$$."

"I
know. I gotta go. Bye."

"Bye."

"Hey
Jesse?" I said.

"Yea?"
He answered.

"Is
you're agent nice?"

"Totally.
He's really cool. You'll like him a lot."

"Good."
Justin said.

"Don't
forget, you guys have to pretend to try and get along." Jesse
reminded us.

"Yea,
whatever." Justin said.

"I'm
serious, you guys fighting could be the one thing that keeps you
from getting him."

"Justin?"
I said.

"What?"
He snarled.

"Truce
for now? Just so we get him?"

"Fine"
He said, reluctantly.

"Good,
cuz I don't need you ruining this for me. You've ruined school
for me, but if we have to work together, we might as well try
and get along."

"So,
even though were in a truce, you still gonna diss me?"

"Yea,
Whatta ya gonna do about it?" He stood over me and pointed
at me, then the agent we were trying to get walked in. Jesse walked
over to Justin and tapped him on the shoulder.

"What?"
Justin growled at him.

"He's
here." Jesse said.

"Oh."
Justin said.

"Tupidsay."
I muttered. Jesse laughed.

"Say
one more thing in that stupid language of yours and I will kick
your @$$." Justin said.

"Oh,
yea, when? When we're at school, or right now?"

"Right
now."

"Sure,
sure. I believe you." The agent cleared his throat to remind
us that he was there.

"Er,
they don't get along very well, but they're gonna try and work
it out, right guys?" Jesse said.

"Yea,
whatever." I muttered.

"Sure."
Justin said reluctantly.

"Step
into my office please." The agent instructed. So we walked
into his office, and sat down. Jesse sat between me and Justin.
The office was a small, cluttered little space in back of the
waiting room. "Ok, I'm Tim Smith, and I see you've already
met Jesse."

"Yea."
I said, looking around the office. Tim was tall and blond. He
had blue eyes that always seemed to be sparkling and laughing,
not matter how serious he was being. If he wasn't so old, he would
have been really cute. He was in his late 30's or early 40's.

"What
are your names again, I can't seem to remember."

"I'm
Avelina Presley."

"I'm
Justin Estavillo."

"Ah,
yes, now I remember."

"And
it seems you two have a problem with each other."

"Yea,
but we're gonna try and get along." I said, smiling.

"You
two go to school together, right?"

"Yea."
Justin said.

"Well,
you'll have to try and get along at school too. Not just when
I'm around. Let me think of a way to get you to be together at
school. Ah, yes, I know. You two can try and bring your groups
together."

"What
do you mean?" I asked, confused.

"Well,
on Monday, I want you two to start hanging out together. But I
don't want you to leave your little group of friends, so, try
to bring them together."

"That
might be a problem for me." I said, looking into his sparkling
eyes. They seemed to be teasing me, laughing at my pain, "My
friends don't like him and his friends. And there's absolutely
no way I'm gonna hang out with him."

"Avelina."

"Call
me Ave."

"Ok,
Ave, if you want to do this, your gonna have to."

"I
can't. The people at my school, they know me. If they see me with
It, they're gonna think something, that's so not true."

"You
will do as I say. Jesse, since Ave seems so reluctant to be seen
with him, I need someone who will make sure it happens. I'm gonna
call your mother and ask her to get you into Sutter."

"Come
on, you can't force two complete enemies to change their ways
in one day." I said.

"I'm
not. You guys'll have the same friends, and eventually you'll
have to talk." Tim said.

"Will
you excuse me for a minute, while I go talk to my friend about
this, to see what she says." I said.

"If
you're gonna call Chevalia, she's gonna say no."

"Shut
up, you."

"Make
me."

"Fine,
I will." I started to walk over to Justin, but Jesse stood
up, and pushed me out the door.

"Ave,
don't start that." Jesse said.

"Fine.
Can I use your cell again?" I said, rolling my eyes.

"Hello?"
Chevalia said when she answered the phone.

"Hi"

"Hey.
What's up Ave?"

"Tim,
the agent dude, wants me and Justin to start hanging out at school,
and he's making Jesse come to Sutter to make sure we do."

"No
way."

"Unfortunately
it's true."

"So,
if you wanna get this dude, you have to be friends with Justin?"

"Yea.
Can you call the others and tell 'em we're gonna have a few new
additions to the group?"

"Yea,
sure."

"Thanks,
I gotta go back and talk to Tim."

"Ok,
bye."

"Bye."

"Well?"
Jesse asked.

"She's
calling the others to tell 'em right now."

"Ok,
good." Then, me and Jesse walking into the room.

"I'm
back. Did ya miss me?" I said smiling, sitting down, and
being my usual stupid self, but, as usual, Justin had to ruin
it.

"No,
we didn't." Justin said.

"You
shut up." I said.

"Make
me."

"Ok."
I got up, but Jesse stood up and pushed me back down by my head,
"Thanks Jesse." I said sarcastically.

"You're
gonna be doin that a lot to both of us at school." Justin
said.

"Jesse,
I want a daily report on how they're doing, and I want the three
of you back here on Saturday." Tim said.

"Fine."
We all said at the same time. Then, we walked outta the room.

"Jesse,
lemme call Momma on your cell?" I asked.

"K"
He said.

"Hello?"
Momma said when she answered her cell.

"Come
pick me up. I'll be waiting outside."

"Ok.
Bye."

"Bye."

"Do
you want me to wait outside with you?" Jesse asked.

"Yea,
if you want." I said. So we walked outside, and his cell
rang.

"Hello?"
Jesse said when he answered it.

"Hey
dude." Said the person on the other line.

"Hey
Chris."

"Chris!"
I said.

"Hold
on. Yea, Chris."

"Did
you say my name?"

"Remember
I said two people were trying to get my agent, a guy and a girl?"

"Yea."

"The
girl is Ave, and the guy is Justin. And I'm standing outside with
Ave, she's waiting for her mom."

"Oh,
how'd it go anyway?"

"It
turned out that Ave and Justin knew each other from school, and
they hate each other, and they had a fight."

"Ooh,
who won?"

"They
both lost. Tim's making me go to their school to make sure they
get along."

"That
sucks. What school?"

"Sutter."

"Hey,
I'm gonna ask my mom if she can let me go there with you."

"Ok."

"Wait
while I ask."

"Ok."

"You
told Chris about me and Justin." I half screamed.

"Yea,
but to make up for that, I might have some good news."

"Well,
spit it out."

"Chris
is asking his mom if she'll let him come to Sutter."

"Ooh,
cool."

"Jesse."
Chris said when he got back on the phone.

"Yea."
Jesse replied.

"She
said yea."

"Oh,
cool."

"What?"
I asked.

"She
said yea."

"Tight."
Them Momma drove up. I had my back to the car, and I was looking
at Jesse, so I didn't noticed, but one of my best friends, Julia,
got outta the car.

"Hey
Ave." I looked around, and saw Julia. I screamed and ran
to hug her.

"Oh,
my God! Julia!" I was so happy to see her, I was crying.
I hadn't seen her in two years.

"Are
you ok Ave?" Jesse asked.

"Yea.
Oh, Jesse, this is Julia, Jul, this is Jesse."

"Hi."
Jesse said.

"Hi,"
Julia said, "You look like Jesse from-"

"Dream
Street?"

"Yea."

"That's
cuz I am."

"Get
out."

"I'm
serious."

"He
is." I told her.

"Ave.
Get in the car." My mom said.

"Oh,
hey Momma. Bye Jesse. See ya Monday." I said.

"Bye
Ave."
Me and Julia started to get in the back seat of the car, and I
said, "Oh, wait. Jesse, can I have your phone number, just
in case, like, I wanna talk or something?" Even if I didn't
really have a reason to call, I would find one.

"Oh,
yea." Jesse said and he gave me his home phone, and his cell
number, and I gave him my dad's number, and my mom's number.

"Your
gonna see him Monday?" my mom said.

"Yea.
Long story."

"We
have time."

"Well,
ok, if you really wanna know."

"I
do."

"Ok,
you know the other guy that walked in the room while I was talking
to Chevalia?"

"Yea."

"That
was Justin."

"Justin
was there?" Julia asked. She knows Justin too. She was the
one that knew Justin from 6th grade.

"Yea,
and, well, we sorta got in a fight as soon as Tim walked in. And
he said that he wanted us to hang out at school so that we would
start to get along, and I objected."

"Oh,
Ave." My mom said, in a disappointed tone.

"You
got in a fight with Justin?" Julia asked in shock.

"Yea,
I know. But something good came out of it."

"What
good could possibly come out of that?"

"Well,
now Jesse and Chris are coming to my school. Tim told Jesse to
come to Sutter to make sure we got along, then Chris called and
Jesse told him, and Chris asked his mom if he could go to Sutter
too. And his mom said yea, oh, and we have to go back next Saturday."

"Ooh.
I bet you like that."

"You
have no idea." I said, with a huge smile on my face.

"Guess
where we're goin today." My mom said.

"Where?"

"Palmdale."

"Cool."

"Guess
where you, me and Julia are goin."

"Where?"

"Karaoke"

"No
way! I thought they didn't have Karaoke there anymore."

"Sy
came back."

"Yes!
Jul, you finally get to meet Sam. Eew." Then I saw a white
car drive past us on the free way. Guess who was in it. Just guess.
It was the person I least wanted to see. The one that ruins everything
for me. If you guessed Justin, you're right. And, he was on his
way to ruin something else for me that day.

"What?"
Julia asked.

"Justin's
in the car next to us." Julia went to go look out my window.

"Ave,
your seein things. Justin's not out there." I looked out
again, and sure enough, the car was gone.

"Whatever."
* * *

"Carlos."
Justin said to the boy sitting in the car next to him.

"What?"
Carlos asked, annoyed. His favorite song was playing on the radio.

"Ave's
in the white car next to us."

"Really?
Where?" Carlos asked looking out the window. "You moron,
she's not out there."

"I
swear I saw her."

"Well
I guess I missed her."
You're probably wondering who Sy is, and why I'm so excited to
go to Karaoke in Palmdale. So, here's the answer. Ok, They had
Karaoke in Palmdale, and me and my mom always went. Sy is the
guy that runs it, and he has a really cute son named Sam, that
always goes with him. Anyway, back to the story. When we finally
got to Palmdale, I was smiling as me and Jul ran to where they
do Karaoke.
