DAVID AND IRENE, part 7                                              by Nathan Coppedge

The next morning they meet in front of the museum. But as they walk up the steps he spots a sign.

Its closed he says. It looks like theyre taking down the Dal exhibit, or doing renovations or something. We can still have a date though, cant we?

Well find something she says.

By wordless mutual consent they make their way towards the center of town. As they approach, they can hear music, which grows louder and louder, until they almost want to dance. By now they are holding hands. They sit down on a bench together facing the music.

The sentiment is bluesy, but theres an intricate Spanish guitar rhythm going in the background. One of the musicians keeps yelling in exhaltation Ayeee, yi yi yi!.

They just sit there listening.

She starts to cry on his shoulder. This is beautiful she says.

He wraps his arm around her. They sit that way for a long time. After awhile the music stops and theres a long drawn out pause. Then she says she has to go home for dinner.

Ill see you tomorrow. she says. Or, if not, please write. She gives him her e-mail address.
