March 18/19, 2000

Well, my trip to Las Vegas was not as cool as I was hoping it would be, but I guess that just happens sometimes.

Actually, it was the worst vacation of my whole life. It started with the plane. I swear I am never flying America West again. Really. I'm not. The first plane we were on had a broken engine...when did they find this out? When we were on the darn runway! That's when!! So we had to get another flight. Which, of course, meant that what should have been a three and a half hour flight actually ended up being a SEVEN hour flight. We were so tired when we got to Las Vegas I thought we were going to collapse. Brian was drunk by the time we got off the plane, since he and Curtis waited THREE hours for us to show up.

Brian gave Joseph and I a quarter each to drop in a slot machine in the airport and I won $5.00 ~ I figured this was an auspicious start to the gambling portion of our trip anyway.

The first night was interesting, we stayed up really late cause of the time change and we were looking for our hotel room, and we walked around the "Old Strip" for a while (the old strip is what you see in the movies about vegas, I think)

The next morning we had breakfast at the Luxor with Marija and Chuckie ~ it was a good time, other than the fact that Marija and Chuckie had already started eating on the assumption that since we were a half hour late (thanks to the bus) Brian had somehow convinced us to ditch them and hang with him. Of course she didn't know that he was still passed out in bed. He didn't get in until pretty early in the mornin. Oh well, Marija has this weird idea that Brian is somehow going to make me not be Marija's friend or something. I don't know where she gets these crazy ideas, but whatever.

So we spent most of Friday morning roaming around, seeing different casinos, trying to get to our hotel via all the monorails that connect the casinos, carring our baggage all the while. It was fun, and annoying, and tiring all at the same time. We walked for MILES AND MILES before we finally gave up and got a taxicab to go to the hotel in.

The hotel we stayed at was the "Westward Ho" which contrary to the name is a pretty nice hotel. The room was only in Marija and Chuckie's name and for some reason they got upgraded to a suite instead of a regular room, so we stayed in this killer hotel room that had THREE beds and two bedrooms with doors that closed. It was sweet. Marija and Chuckie decided to do some more gambling, and we decided we were going to meet up with them at some point to do something. I forget exactly what, but instead Joseph and I had amazing sex (it seems to be really nifty to have sex on vacation...I wonder why) and then we fell asleep. We weren't intending to take a nap, but we'd only had TWO HOURS of sleep the night before, so we were TIRED! We woke up to the sound of Mr. Handyman of the hotel tryin to take the hinges offa the suite door. Why? Because Joseph had locked the handle from the inside, which means NONE OF THE KEYS WOULD WORK. They said they were pounding on the door and screamin for like forty five minutes. I felt so bad. I couldn't believe that we had really locked them out. Needless to say I woke up in a FOUL mood. Marija and Chuckie decided they were going to take a nap and Joseph and I went for a walk. We wandered aimlessly, we fought, then we met Marija and Chuckie to go to the Stratosphere (the space needle in the sky thingy). Joseph, because he is just a turtle dove of love, paid for all of us to get the buffet dinner, and for Marija and Chuckie to go on the funky up n down g force ride thing on top of the needle part of the casino. They seemed to have fun.

We got back to the room and into bed at about ... whew, I don't even remember. But we got up at 7am to go to breakfast the next day.

First thing Saturday morning we went to the Las Vegas Hilton to have breakfast and see Star Trek: The Experience. The exhibit didn't open till 10 or 11, so we decided to go see the white tigers at the Mirage and have breakfast there.

At the Mirage, we had breakfast, then went into Sigfreid & Roy's Secret garden. That was spectacular! The animals were just beautiful, and all seemed really content. The dolphins were sooo cute! One of them was only four days old and was swimming with her mommy. They looked like they had coreographed what they were going to do they were moving in such perfect unison.

We finally got back to the Las Vegas Hilton and Star Trek: The Experience, and it was everything that we had hoped it would be. I recommend it to anyone who has an interest in Star Trek!!

After "The Experience" we met Brian, Curtis, AJ and Shadra at Quark's Bar and Grill where we had the "James Tea Kirk" Which was this foaming bubbling bright blue drink served in a CAULDRON...very odd stuff, but almost worth the $12.00 a drink, lemme tell ya.

Then we gambled a LITTLE BIT before my mom came and took us to Debbie's house for Sabrina's (my sister) birthday party. My mother drives like a raving lunatic. My mother does not look like me any longer. I thought that was kind of sad ... she's also about a foot shorter than I am now. That made me happy! The party went well, I miss my brother horribly. I am thinking my sister has chosen her path and there's nothing I can do about that now, so I am happy for her. Lots of sixteen year olds are 7 months pregnant, right? What can i do about it? *shrugs* Oh well, if she needs me, she'll call. She is going to name her baby Austin David. I have no idea what its last name will be.

Then my mom drove us all back to the hotel room where I'd left Nana's and my presents for Sabrina. We woke up Marija and Chuckie and we all ended up (after saying our goodbyes) going to New York New York, where Joseph, Marija and I rode the roller coaster. That coaster has forever turned me off of all roller coasters. It was long, fast, bumpy, choppy, and PAINFUL! Then we went to the Venetian. Of course we are taking the bus thru all of this cause no one but Joseph and I want to drop the cash for a taxi. Oh well. We were a little too late for the canal boat rides but got to see the really georgeous way they had decorated the place. It's amazing. Every hotel is like a theme park...each one could be a totally self contained attraction.

We took the bus home and Joseph and I wanted to get to bed so we could get to the airport for our seven am flight out in the morning. Marija and Chuckie wanted to gamble some more, so we said adeiu and went to the room.

This is the point at which we realized Joseph had lost his keys on the New York New York roller coaster. I CRIED, lemme tell ya, i cried so hard. So we had to go look at Circus Circus, Slots of Fun, and finally back to the The Westward Ho where we found them at a blackjack table. We got their key and went back to the room, where we packed and slept.

Joseph informed me the next morning that I had chained the door, so they had to pound and scream some more to wake Joseph up to get in. I felt bad.

I don't think I'm ever going to go to Las Vegas again. And if for some reason i have no choice and have to go back, I'm definately getting tickets for the Cirque Du Soleil!! Joseph would have taken me while we were out there, but the show was sold out. Such a shame.

I was in an awful mood all last week which was why the page hasn't been updated...I think I'm back on track now...hopefully.

More later, as usual.
