Drunk

In college, you learn to ignore the taste
With every drink you take
You’re a rebel
You’d rather choke and gag
Disproving Newton’s laws of gravity
Drinking upside-down
Once the bitter punch slides down
And the poison apples come to rest
You learn the truth about coke-squared
Cola power of one
Snow-cap for the square
It all settles painlessly
In your liquor jungle
You’re face to face with life at best
Hunger acids burn you raw
As the body rejects its toxic fun
When police sirens flare
Lighting up your bloodshot world
It’s time to leave
You find your car
Six pack that auto full
Drive staring toward the blur
Inhaling sweat and body stench
Be careful of the other cars
And pedestrians
Your best friend up on the hood
With her the car was cramped
Detour the back country roads
Cruise right past the school
You’ll catch it second time round
Late night stop at Micky D’s
It all just looks so good
Eight large fries and coffee please
‘Quiet down now’
You say
‘Quiet down now’
The campus sheriff warns
Walk a real straight line
Or do not walk at all
Your car’s faster anyhow
Floor the gass
Off the highway shoulder
Surrounded by stalks of corn
Sleep in the car
Seriously…
Ok move over now
Sleep sitting straight
Forehead on the wheel
Too many snoring bodies in the back
At least no one’s on the roof
She fell off three exits back
Thud
Falling on your knees
Say a prayer to the porcelain god
In back of an empty, stranded bus
The end, peace out, and good night
