ACUPRESSURE

Acupressure is the ancient Chinese technique of curing the body’s ailments by applying pressure at key nodes. Though the technique is now becoming popular as an alternative therapy in achieving instant relief from an aching body parts, the ancient Chinese used acupressure to maintain physical well-being and good health.

According to Oriental philosophy, the blockage of chi or vital energy that flows along the 14 imaginary meridians in the body leads to imbalances in the body which in turn are manifested as physical ailments. Acupressure blasts these blockages and restores the natural and healthy flow of Chi, thereby restoring health and vitality.

The only tool used in administering acupressure is the thumb and fingertips. Pressure is applied at various pressure points (lying along the 14 meridians) which in turn stimulate the healthy flow of chi in the corresponding organ and blast the blockage.

The meridians map the entire body starting from fingertips and ending at the top of the head at one end and soles at the other. Acupressurists believe that treating the `root cause’ is the best way to rid the body of the ailment and hence do not treat the symptom alone. Hence they rarely treat the part that is hurting and instead concentrate on the core issue which may actually be far removed from the (seemingly) ailing part.

Acupressure is performed on a floor mat or table with the practitioner administering pressure at various points using the thumb and fingertips and in extreme cases elbows and feet as well.

Acupressure (like mentioned earlier), not only treats physical symptoms alone, it treats the webs of the mind, emotional upheavals and spiritual quandaries as well. In fact to briefly summarize the benefits of acupressure, it can provide :-

:: Relief from stress and tension
:: Stimulate blood circulation

The patient is usually made to lie down on a soft massage table while the practitioner gently applies pressure at points where the chi maybe blocked. An average session may last for as long as an hour with the administering of pressure being strictly gentle
