4/12/04-5/12/04 Macau trip for Marathon
4/12/04
I went to Macau to join the Macau International Marathon
2004 with the HK Diabetes Association Delegates. I was a bit tired as I was
post call today.
It was quite relaxing and it was the first time I traveled with collegues in
the medical department. Twodiabetes patients who were on insulin pump would
join the 10km run and one would join the half-marathon. I was so impressed with
the patients' determination and the enthusiasm of Dr MWTsang for helping the
patients to participate this event.

Today, we woke up at 6am and started the race at 7am. To be frank, I had not
practised running for nearly a year. Despite I had frequent baseball trainings,
I felt quite tired. The idea of giving up lingered on while I was running. Unlike
HK Standard Charter Marathon, this Macau Marathon only the runner complete the
race within the time limit will be awarded a medal- perhaps one of the encouragements
for me to complete the race. Perseverance- my life attitute
was indeed the main engine which kept me running. At the last 5 kms, I felt
really good and started to enjoy the race. The South China Sea next to the Friendship
Bridge was indeed quite beautiful. Why? It was because I had confidence that
I had energy to finish the remaining distance. So I began to speed up and finished
the race at about 2 hr 24 mins. What's so impressed was that the diabetes patient
who ran for half marathon was faster then me!!
Despite after the energy consuming race, we went to sightseeing and tasted some
yummy food before we went back to Hong Kong.

I was invited to be a guest speaker in a sharing organised by the Award for young people called " facing challenge". There are many other speakers including famous athletes Wong Kam Po and politician Ho Sau Lan.
Accepting this invitation is already a challenge for
me. My opportunity to encourage young people with my experience. After the sharing,
i got some inspiration from Miss Ho Sau Lan today
as well.... she said in a society , politics have a relationship to all the
ppl...then she said some ppl gonna take up the role...not becuz of what benefit
one can get, but because of personal belief of making the society better.
this could apply to the any group we involved in our daily life...

I went to see the sunrise in Lantau Peak. Initially the clouds were thick and the staff in YHA said we most probably cant see the sunrise, but to our surprise, the sunrise was briliant!! Thanks God for you for the wonderful time to appreciate God's creation, especially for the weather that allows such a magnificant scene. Most of the time we watched sunrise is the sun come out after the sky is brightenedˇK
This years Xmas holiday was a sleepless one cuz i was
on call 22 , 26 ,30, in between i had gatherings /activities some of which were
overnight as well..
