15/1/06 Softball, Endocrinology, Fellow doctor

It's been so long since last time I type in this diary.

Let me try to recapture what happened¡K

Softball

Today I had my second softball match, the feeling of being bench player is bitter yet aceptable, since I never turned up in the practices which so happen always clash my work or other business. ( I started to play softball this season and joined the Red Castle women team)

Endocrinology

I finished my one-month rotation to GI in Dec and started endocrine rotation in Jan. I enjoyed working with the endocrinologist consultant, a very father-like doctor. He is gentle and kinda very experienced. From how he recognized a septic patient and subsequently it's a liver abscess, from his knowledegeble manner¡KI think if I could learn something from him everyday, I will advance in my medical profession. He gives me chance to see intra-department endocrine consultations, which is an ambivalent experience since I know nothing about endocrinology, yet the feeling of being trusted is great.

Fellow doctor

Last week is a special week- I made a friend in my workplace! There are definitely different levels of friendship. In some context friends = hi bye friends; in other context, friends = you just know them by names and not even a hi/ bye through out many years. Too pathetic to say, for years I never feel connected with another fellow doctor colleague in my department. Is it because the tightly packed work schedule and my perfectionism character push myself to finish my work too punctually and ignore everyone else? Or my way of interacting with other fellow doctors make them feel distant? Anyhow, it's always easier for me to communicate with other through written words rather then spoken words. Who in the workplace, can bear with spending time for online chat? While there are so many journals, so many presentations piling up? This colleague, is friendly, helpful and an animal lover. Feelings is different after having a friend in the department, perhaps it's because the solitary / lonely feeling fading away.

19/1/2006 First success
Today I successfully performed my first OGD on my own! No need to get assistance from others !! So great!

22/1/06 Moshi moshi
Tokyo had the heaviest snow going on with many flights delayed. I missed my friend very much who was stucked. It's wired we seldom call each other while in HK but talked to her twice while she's stuck in Tokyo...

29/1/06 Year of the Dog
I had annual leave in the lunar new year. Just staying in Hongkong while having annual leave and have rest. Not much plan tho, just wanna update my homepage, draw an oil-painting , visiting relatives and some outdoor activities.

31/1/06 Hiking day trip
A nice hiking today with the colleagues. I did not expect the scenery there was so good... the hallow maple tree in lai-chi-wo, the mangrove and wetland, the terraine was so different and it's always fun to spend time in the nature.
