Some Common Words, Phrases and Acronyms used in Business and Management

 

ASAP: as soon as possible

Ex: try to finish your report ASAP.

FYI: for your information

Ex: Hey, FYI….our production has been going down for the last two months.

Rat Hole:  distractions that make us not achieve results during a meeting

Ex: Everybody is making reference to the same topics over and over again. No rat holes, please.

Heads-up:  warning, precaution, alert

Ex: Heads-up only…. We need to present those results tomorrow.

One meeting, please: just one person talking, no interruptions

Ex: Hey, everybody is making a lot of noise and talking…one meeting, please

Wrap-Up Meeting: a meeting to decide and make decisions. To come to and end and decide something.

Ex: We made up our minds during our wrap-up meeting yesterday.

SOP: standard operating procedure

Ex: Could you please explain the SOPs defined by your group, please?

CEO: Chief Executive Officer / Administrator / President

Ex: Our CEO made reference to our great revenues.

CFO:  Chief Financial Officer

Ex: Our CFO made reference to our economic difficulties.

1:1 (one on one):  To have a meeting between 2 people only.

Ex: I need a 1:1 with you ASAP.  Could you make it tomorrow at 3pm?

Face to Face (F2F): eye to eye, person to person

Ex: I’ll go to the US on Monday to have my F2F meeting with my counterpart.

-Dump: to throw away, to transfer

-High-flier: a person who grows fast in terms of business

-Shortage: deficiency in quantity, deficit

-Smokestack: chimney

-Telecommute: to use a computer and other devices to work at home

-Resilience: flexibility

-Entrepreneur: a person who organizes and manages a business assuming the risk for the sake of the profit

-Greedy: avaricious, selfish

-Crackpot: a crazy or eccentric person

-Bide: Endure

-Icon: image, figure, symbol

-Manager: administrator or person who manages or administrates a company or place

-Background: framework, environment or setting. Circumstances or conditions.

-Budding: juvenile

-Flair: talent, gift or ability
