Equipment for Rider and Horse
What does a rider need for English riding?
First, you need a pair of boots.  If you are 12 or older, or have just about finished growing, tall boots (at left) are suitable.  If you are younger, you will need to wear paddock boots (at right) which are shorter and more for younger children.
You will need to buy either breeches, jodphurs, or chaps.  Breeches go down to your calf, jodphurs go down to your ankles, and chaps go over your jeans (chaps are more for lessons, NOT shows!)  Jodphurs (or breeches, I can't tell!) are at right, and chaps are at the left.
Always wear a helmet!  You can buy a velvet helmet or a plastic helmet with a cover for shows.  Many stables require to have a helmet when mounted.
Horse Equipment
This is an ankle boot.  It protects the horse's fetlock area.
This is a bell boot.  It goes on the horse's hoof and protects it when jumping or traveling.
