April 29, 2003 - Jim Carrey has signed on to star as Marshall Applewhie (the heavens gate cult leader) next summer but don't be expecting a drama/mystery movie.

"I want this to be a fun film. It's a musical and that is new to me but we are aiming for something along the lines of the musicals you would see in an episode of "South Park" or it's movie." Jim Carrey stated.

Carrey is also shedding 30 pounds for the job. The movie is set to start shooting sometime in 2004 after he finishes shooting the sequel to Liar, Liar

Look for both movies to hit cinemas sometime in 2007.
