Another topic that makes steam come out of my ears. Text Speak.
It is the greatest evil known to man kind. It is Text Speak!
Or Net Speak, or whatever name you wanna call it by it's evil!
Look it's simple. It takes like what a extra minute to type in English? And you save ME and anyone else reading a world class headache and 20 minutes of trying to translate your nonsense into something understandable!
Like I say in my Yahoo Profile (And I Quote) : "If you speak text speak don't even THINK of IMing me! I can't stand it and I won't respond. Typos and not knowing a word are ok, I do it too. But Text speak is BAD!!"
Some times it's ok in small doses. A LOL here, a brb there, is all well and good but trying to hold a whole conversation in something like this: "H R U?" "U R kewl" " "I C. got 2 go" Blech! *shudders violently and feels a need to shower after typing that* I'm sorry anyone who holds a conversation like that needs to be killed for the sake of the human race! If you type like that you must get out of the gene pool now!
Whatever minion of evil invented that bull needs to die. Not joking. Text speak has become one of the worst things on the net! I mean my god do you have any clue how hard it is to find a message board that's not filled with that shit?!
If you're a user of Text Speak and reading this I'm going to do you a favor. I'm going to tell you how stupid you sound. You might be a MENSA level brain but when you use text speak you sound like a brain damaged two year old!
If You're old enough to be on a computer and talking on message boards and chat rooms you're old enough to learn to type in English!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've heard the arguments that it saves time. But if you don't have the time to talk to me in English I don't have the time to talk to you period.
And by the way how the heck does typing stuff like...*searches 'Understanding standing leet' web pages* "sk1llz0rz for skills" save you any time?! It doesn't. It just makes you look like someone beat you over the head repeatedly with a 2X4! (Which is what I feel like doing when I see this garbage.)
I'm not expecting perfection here! Just read my web site I'm one of the worst spellers on earth! And 10,000 times worse in chat rooms where there's no spell check! And my grammar has been known to make my mom and my fanfiction readers cry. But come on! Use English people! Don't try to save a micro-second of time by shorting words! Type out the whole word! Some LOL's and brb's and such are fine when used sparingly but attempting to make a whole conversation out of text speak just makes you look stupid and makes my head hurt.
So in closing, spread the word! Help me to wipe out the use of Text Speak in conversations! If you see someone using it stamp it out like a fire in the middle of a forest in dry season! Stop the Evil before the next generation completely loses the ability to communicate in anything close to English! In the words of Reverend Lovejoy's Wife from the Simpsons: "Won't somebody please think of the children?!"
Edited on 4/3/05 to add: Ok another problem with Text speak is stupid people using it on message boards in debates! For gods sake if you're trying to have an intelligent conversation, trying to prove your stance as the right one how the hell do you expect people to think you're anything but a moron if you can spell the word "You"?! If you can't put caps at the start of sentences, and at least try to sound like you have an IQ above that of a rock?!
Look I am not going to even consider the Point of View of someone who can't type out a freaking word!

Ok stupid people.... why the hell do you keep talking to me when I tell you I don't speak to morons who speak text speak?!?
Do you think I'm joking or something?! IS this all a game to you?!
If I tell you I don't talk to losers who speak in text speak that means either learn English or leave me the Fuck alone!!
Don't keep talking in text speak and asking why I don't like text speak or keep ignoring the fact that I'm telling you to leave me alone!
I'm said it once I'll say it again... If you're old enough to be on a computer and on the Internet then you're damn well old enough to be able to read and type in English!
