Iatrogenic Disease
This is a disease caused by doctors and their treatments and is the 4th leading cause of deaths in the U.S.
Here are two examples of Iatrogenic disease.
He was suffering from heart disease and tachycardia (rapid heart beat) and taken to the hospital. After seeing a cardiologist he was given 5 prescriptions and discharged. The drugs made him extremely dizzy and he developed fainting spells. His eyes watered profusely, nose ran like water and his mouth became sore, raw, and full of ulcers. He became weak, could not see properly and his memory began to fade. He was so weak he couldn’t get out of bed. Finally he lost all sense of taste and smell and felt as if he would surely die soon. He went back to the doctor and explained his symptoms. He changed one medication and increased the dose of the others.
He went home and the symptoms became worse, but the doctor warned him that he would die if he didn’t follow his instructions exactly.
In this particular case the cause of the problem was drug poisoning from prescriptions. This is by far the most common iatrogenic disease.
Another patient was suffering from glaucoma and was prescribed eye drops. His eyes began to grow dry and crusty. His ophthalmologist diagnosed his condition as blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids) and prescribed boric acid eye washes twice daily FOR LIFE. When the patient asked if the prescription drops could be causing this (he never had the problem before the drops), his physician said absolutely not. And this is a physician who only deals with eyes and prescriptions for the eyes.
The tip off is that both prescriptions are for life and as long as the eye drops are used, the side effect of blepharitis will be present. The patient looked up the side effects and discovered the cause of the blepharitis, the eye drops. Luckily he was given two products Iplex and A-C Carbamide from Standard Process (which I handle) and was able to wean off his prescription drops with the help of his physician.
Don’t assume that your doctor knows all. It is your health so check your drugs through a drug handbook or over the Internet. If I can be of any help let me know.
A European study found that blood pressure drugs, especially calcium channel blockers cause 100,000 cases of heart failure and heart attacks each year.
Diuretics reduce the amount of fluid in blood vessels, which stress the kidneys; Beta-blockers reduce the force of the heart etc. If at all possible all these drugs should be avoided.
Begin a protocol of proper diet, exercise and supplements to support your body (I can help you get started). After 3 to 6 months on this program go back to your doctor and begin the second phase of your treatment- prescription drug weaning. It is a slow process but it is worth it.
