Text: "Laboratory Manual: An Introduction to General, Organic and Biological Chemistry", by Karen C. Timberlake, 8th edition 1 No contact lenses in the lab. 2 You must always wear glasses or goggles in the lab. 3 Absolutely no eating, drinking or smoking in the lab. 4 We will be working with Organic compounds in some of the experiments, please see me if you are pregnant. 5 No shorts or short skirts in the lab. 6 Always wear shoes in the lab. 7 PUNCTUALITY IS A MUST. All lab instructions are given during the first few minutes of class, hence if you miss those you will either not know what to do or you will disturb your colleagues. Either of those are unacceptable. You will not be allowed to do the lab if any of the above are not followed. CAUTION: We will be dealing with some organic and volatile compounds during the course hence the above are mandatory for the whole semester
Working in the lab: Almost all labs will carried out in partners. Students will assigned partners in the beginning of the lab. Everyone is expected to be cautious and take their work seriously in the lab. Punctuality in the lab : Most instructions and safety precautions for the lab are given in the beginning of the lab session hence it is mandatory that everyone be punctual to the lab. Anyone late by 10 mins might consider not coming to the lab at all that day. Some labs may require more than one lab session, hence anyone missing the first lab will have to miss the second part too. Submission of Lab reports : Lab reports will be due by the next lab session. (You will be advised whether you are to submit the prelab and the post lab) In absolutely no case will late lab reports be taken. A zero will be given for any lab report not submitted. Excused Absence : You can be excused from the lab only if a valid excuse can be presented. The validity of the excuse is totally up to the instructors discretion. Final Exam : There is no final exam in the lab. Good Luck and Have a Safe Lab Experience!!!! |
