Title and Abstract:
Do they adequately reflect the study?
Is there over- interpretation or over-extrapolation of the conclusions? (Correct answer is No)
Is abstract in proper format?
Introduction:
Is the problem being addressed relevant?
Has the background been fully (or adequately) reviewed?
Is it clear how the background formulates the hypothesis or the purpose o f the study?
Has the hypothesis or the purpose of the study been clearly set out?
Materials and methods:
Are definitions unambiguous?
Is it clear what data are to be collected, how and why?
Is the sample representative?
Have the controls been properly selected?
Have proper randomization procedures been followed?
Are the inclusion/exclusion criteria clearly defined?
Is the method for data analysis correct one?
Results:
Is the data presented correctly?
Do points/numbers on the figures or tables correspond to those in the text?
Is the data analysis in accordance with what was promised in the materials and methods section?
If the data has been examined not in ways as planned, then whether it has been defended?
Discussion:
Are the results discussed in relation to the hypothesis or the purpose of the study?
Are the limitations of the study — materials and methods as well as results — clearly defined?
Are the results discussed in context with the relevant literature?
Are the results over-interpreted or over-extrapolated? (Correct answer is No)
Are comparisons with the previous results valid?
References:
Are they complete?
Are they in proper format?
Do they tally with those in the text?
