Drowning In Obsolescence is a one-piece band that
hails from Devon, Alberta.
Dustin Wade is that particular piece, possibly a piece that was
lost from a puzzle with no border.
Described as "ambient and atmospheric with emotions",
Drowning In Obsolescence is definately interesting. Influenced
heavily by modern heavy metal, goth, new wave, and punk, D.I.O's
(mostly) instrumental songs change between each genre and blend
them together to form one genreless sound, usually within the
same song. Each song also generally features the
verse/chorus/verse structurings as most contemporary music, only
without lyrics. "The listener can make their own lyrics up
to fit their mood, and how the music affects their mood,"
says Dustin. "That's what my music is about, mood. It
reflects the mood I'm in when I write it, and it changes my mood
when I play it."
Drowning In Obsolescence is not just about music either. It is a statement. "I like to think of myself as a bit of a fuck you to the mainstream. As a whole, instrumental acts don't get much radio or video airplay, but yet they still can garner huge fan bases. Look at God Speed! You Black Emperor or Sigur Ros. I want Drowning In Obsolescence to be like them, underground and unheard of, except by certain people, certain crowds. I want a certain type of fan base, which can only be described as hardcore. I don't care what they look like, how they dress, where they are from, any of that shit. I only care if they like my music for my music.... Oh, and if people decide that they don't like it for whatever reason, I don't care."
