| This is where it all began the very first pair of steers that I had here in Georgia, Bill and Ted, and this is also the team that taught me a lot about raising and training and keeping a pair of steers this size that had never been handled and the fact that I did not want to do it again, although I have a couple 6 more times. This team came from Tom Russ in Barnesville, Ga just after the first of the year 1999, I had bought a pair of calves from another local farmer and when I went and to pick them up they had been de-horned and castrated so I did not get them. Well after looking long and hard at several farms and a hundred or more calves I went to a farm that I knew and asked if they had a pair of calves that I could buy that would mate for size and color well I was sent around a shed full of calves and when I reached the other side where I could look at some of the calves I was greeted by two calves strolling my way side by side in step and this is the team. I went over a few days later and roped them and put them on a trailer and worked them for about 6 months when a call came in from a local heritage Museum that they were looking for a team of oxen well I didn't have technically what they wanted but they lookad and bought them and they are now still living in the Westville Georgia 1800's Museum in Lumpkin Ga. thanks to them for helping me get started and buying the first team. |
