Night
Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah (radhiallahu anhu):
Allah's Apostle (salallahu alaihi wasallam) said, "When night falls (or when it is evening), stop your children from going out, for the devils spread out at that time. But when an hour of the night has passed, release them and close the doors and mention Allah's Name, for the Shaytan does not open a closed door. Tie the mouth of your water-skin and mention Allah's Name; cover your containers and utensils and mention Allah's Name. Cover them even by placing something across it, and extinguish your lamps."
[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 69, Number 527]
Oppression
Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (radhiallahu anhu):
Allah's Apostle (salallahu alaihi wasallam) said, "When the believers pass safely over (the bridge across) Hell, they will be stopped at a bridge in between Hell and Paradise where they will retaliate upon each other for the injustices done among them in the world, and when they get purified of all their sins, they will be admitted into Paradise. By Him in Whose Hands the life of Muhammad is everybody will recognise his dwelling in Paradise better than he recognises his dwelling in this world."
[Sahih Bukhair, Volume 3, Book 43, Number 620]
The Hour
Narrated Anas (radhiallahu anhu):
I heard from Allah's Apostle (salallahu alaihi wasallam) a narration which none other than I will narrate to you. The Prophet (salallahu alaihi wasallam) said, "From among the portents of the Hour are the following: general ignorance (in religious affairs) will prevail, religious knowledge will decrease, illegal sexual intercourse will prevail, alcoholic drinks will be drunk in abundance, men will decrease and women will increase so much so that for every fifty women there will be one man to look after them."
[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 69, Number 483]
Advice
Narrated Abu Hurairah (radhiallahu anhu):
My friend, the Prophet (salallahu alaihi wasallam) advised me to observe 3 things:"
1) to fast 3 days a month;"
2) to pray 2 rak'at of Duha prayer (fore-noon prayer); and"
3) to pray Witr before sleeping"
[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 31, Number 202]
Umrah and Hajj
Narrated Abu Hurairah (radhiallahu anhu):
Allah's Apostle (salallahu alaihi wasallam) said, "The performance of Umrah is an expiation for the sins committed (between it and the previous one). And the reward of Hajj Mabrur (the one accepted by Allah) is nothing except Paradise."
[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 27, Number 1]
Pledge
Narrated 'Ubada bin As-Samit (radhiallahu anhu):
Allah's Apostle (salallahu alaihi wasallam) said while a group of his companions were around him, "Swear allegiance to me for:"
1) not to join anything in worship along with Allah"
2) not to steal"
3) not to commit illegal sexual intercourse"
4) not to kill your children"
5) not to accuse an innocent person (to spread such an accusation among people)"
6) not to be disobedient when ordered to do a good deed."
The Prophet (salallahu alaihi wasallam) added, "Whoever among you fulfills his pledge will be rewarded by Allah. And whoever indulges in any one of them (except the ascription of partners to Allah) and gets the punishment in this world, that punishment will be an expiation for that sin. And if one indulges in any one of them and Allah conceals his sin, it is up to Him to forgive or punish him (in the Hereafter)." 'Ubada bin As-Samit added: "So were swore allegiance for these."
[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, Number 17]
Fasting
Narrated Abu Hurairah (radhiallahu anhu):
Allah's Apostle (salallahu alaihi wasallam) said, "Fasting is a shield (or a screen or a shelter) so the person observing fasting should avoid sexual relation with his wife and should not behave foolishly and impudently, and if somebody fights with him or abuses him, he should tell him twice, 'I am fasting.'" The Prophet (salallahu alaihi wasallam) added, "By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, the smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of Allah than the smell of musk. (Allah says about the fasting person), 'He has left his food, drink and desires for My sake. The fast is for Me. So I will reward (the fasting person) for it and the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times.'"
